Besame Cosmetics Lipstick Review

I was 8 years old when I first watched Dorothy Dandridge strut across the screen as the sultry Carmen Jones in the namesake 1954 movie musical. Nothing, in my young mind, was more beautiful than the way those ruby red lips gleamed in contrast on her caramel complexion. My obsession with vintage red lipstick really began in earnest then and hasn’t slowed. Since then I’ve managed to amass an array of red lip colors, but Besame Cosmetics’ beautiful vintage inspired lipsticks totally take the cake.

Founded by cosmetic historian, Gabriela Hernandez, Besame is a luxury brand that aims to inject everyday modern living with a nostalgic dose of vintage glamour. Everything, from the elegant packaging to the impressively inclusive shade range is based on careful research that ensures the products are true to the era from which inspiration is pulled.

I recently tried two shades in the lipstick line and was just blown away! While Besame Red (my personal favorite) is a classic blue crimson, RED Hot RED leans a bit more orange making both easily wearable on all skin tones. Semi-matte but non drying, they boast a luxurious and long lasting formula that easily rivals that of any prestige brand. Even on my highly pigmented lips, one swipe delivered an opaque coat of bright and bold color that I absolutely adore. Encased in a sleek golden sheath emblazoned with Besame’s logo, these beauties can be found for $22 USD at besamecosmetics.com.
