Halekulani: The Perfect Island Wedding

By: Megan Jander

If you’re looking to say “I do” on a gorgeous tropical island, then say “Aloha” to the Halekulani Resort in Hawaii! Originally beginning in 1907 as the Hau Tree Hotel, it consisted of a beachfront home and five bungalows. In 1917, the hotel was purchased from Robert Lewers by Juliet and Clifford Kimball, who gradually expanded the property as a stylish resort for wealthy vacationers. It was then renamed to “Halekulani”, which means “House Befitting Heaven”. In 1981, the Kimballs sold the hotel to Mitsui Fudosan America, Inc., which formed the Honolulu-based Halekulani Corporation. It was later closed and the aging bungalows destroyed. Today, it has been restored and retained, including the iconic century-old kiawe tree that greets guests as they enter.

The resort offers world class setting, dining and unmatched service, set in an ocean-front venue while being within range of other Waikiki activities and sightseeing. The hotel is also known for its past affiliation with renowned designer, Vera Wang. Vera Wang hand selected items for the Vera Wang Suite at the resort, which has now been renamed the Halekulani Suite. Although Vera Wang is no longer affiliated with the resort, her style still influences the famous suite.

Like many resorts, they offer a variety of wedding packages. Their packages appeal to even the most sensitive brides, ensuring that their wedding needs are met and so that they never have to worry about a thing. To help make the most of their weddings, they recommend brides and their future grooms hire local professionals as vendors because they have been to the resort many times and can make accurate suggestions to create the bride’s desired image.

As for their suggestion on venue for your wedding, they recommend the Hau Terrace venue. One of the most popular wedding sites of the resort, it has three-sided wrap around lanai that overlooks the Pacific Ocean yet it is still private and away from curious tourists.

So if you’ve been dreaming of a tropical island wedding, then we at World Bride Magazine recommend the Halekulani Resort as your wedding destination.
