Everywhere we turn countless commercials, billboards, and magazines are bombarding us with images of beauty. Whether the images we see are of models or celebrities, each picture captures their glowing skin, flawless hair, and unmatched style, which would make any “ordinary” person jealous.

However, no matter how “ordinary” you think you are it is possible to achieve a beautiful image even if you don’t have the disposable income that many celebrities have. I will share with you a few grooming secrets that will make your face and hair worthy of every major magazine, television red carpet and paparazzi’s camera.

Too often, I meet clients/men who choose to wash their face with an over the counter bar of soap.  Big mistake! Soap strips the skin of all its natural oils because they have a higher PH level than skin cleansers.  One of the most damaging crimes against your skin is soap, it draws out the water in your skin and creates dead, dry skin cell buildup causing dehydration and tightness.

We highly recommend that you follow these basic steps for a results-oriented regimen, and you will achieve the look you will love. Always cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face on a daily basis to encourage healthy skin cell production.

The skincare products of choice at Adrian Fanus Grooming are:

Cleansers:

Nivea Men Sensitive Face Wash. Nivea Men Sensitive Face Wash cleanser is a good choice because it is soap and dye free and formulated with no drying alcohol. It’s enriched with vitamin E and natural, soothing chamomile and witch hazel extracts. It leaves skin looking clean and healthier as well as feeling fresh and comfortable.

Most of my clients who used Nivea Men Sensitive Face Wash have continued to use it because they felt that it was not harsh on their face and left the skin feeling cool and rejuvenated, without drying it out.

Kyoku for Men®. The Kyoku facial cleanser is a good choice because it destroys acne-causing bacteria, controls excess oil and reduces pores with a patented quadruple complex of potent inflammation-fighting antioxidants.

Glycerin (sugar-alcohol compound) is an organic compound composed of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. It’s a thick (viscous), colorless and odorless liquid. It’s water-soluble, sweet to taste and is non-toxic too. As a cleanser, its products vary from soaps to anti-ageing gels. Topically, this ingredient is usually safe for all skin types. You can opt for glycerin based with an essential oil for your skin type.

Aging or dry skin – Try a rose or chamomile essential oil

Normal skin – Use lavender essential oil

Oily or acne-prone skin – Go for tea tree or geranium essential oils

The benefits of glycerin are numerous to say the least:

  • It removes clogged impurities and helps in lightening skin shade.
  • It cures oily skin problems like pimples, acne and blackhead.
  • It helps retain the skin’s water.
  • It can also be used as a toner.
  • It is a wonderful skin moisturizer and gives the skin a soft and supple feel.
  • Diluted version makes the hands smooth.
  • It works like magic to heal cracked heels overnight. Wash your feet well and apply glycerin on cracked heels.
  • It is an excellent remedy for dry and chapped lips when used as a lip balm.
  • It acts as a sunscreen to some extent.

Since glycerin is non-toxic in nature, it’s no wonder it finds its way to so many uses. Glycerin is much better than those costly creams and parlor treatments, furthermore, if your skin requires a very deep cleaning, look for cleansers with clay specified in the beginning of the ingredients list. Or another great option is to find a masque with the appropriate essential oils for your skin type.

Toners:

Thayers®  Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera. This product contains a soothing blend of ingredients offering a natural way to purify the skin. Those with larger pores or acne-prone skin will find that this toner lifts away debris without over-drying their face.

Alternatively, try witch hazel or pure water with drops of lemon juice.  Also, pure aloe leaf or gel helps to minimize pores and is extremely soothing for irritated skin.

Moisturizers:

Nivea Men. The range of Nivea Men moisturizers are great for alleviating dry skin by providing long-lasting moisture care and protecting your skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays. Choose the formula that is best suited for your needs and skin type.

If you are budget conscious, you can opt for homemade alternatives that will yield similar results. Keep in mind some key ingredients to look for when selecting your skincare product are glycerin and vitamin E.

Exfoliators:

Oatmeal, baking soda and apple cider vinegar are good natural basic choices. Mix the oatmeal with half part water and add 3 parts baking soda and 1 part apple cider vinegar. Mix them well, then apply the paste to your face and gently scrub.

If your skin is sensitive or scars easily, be sure that your scrub is gentle and does not cause scratching or discomfort with use.

Armed with these grooming secrets, you can be sure that you will not be just another ordinary man on your big day (or on any day for that matter), you will be an extraordinary gentleman.
