NYFW 2017 Behind the scene with celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson and make-up artist Brian C. Hawkins

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FALL 2017 was exotic, bold, sophisticated and alluring. Fall 2017 is about color and texture—from bright shades of pink, rich plums and burnt oranges and hues of yellow. From a beautiful sunset the designers and their creative beauty directors aka “GLAM SQUAD” gave the spectators something to talk about. I had the ultimate job at this year’s NYFW ’17, behind-the-scenes with celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson and the “Ted Gibson Artistic Team,” Brian C. Hawkins lead make-up artist, and Tee Hundley on nails for Alex Vinash at HAUS.

There was standing room only at HAUS for the presentation of Alex Vinash designs. The look that Ted Gibson created for this show was inspired by the 1920s meet 1970s. Sexy meets edgy. A deep sleek side part with sculpted finger waves and loose wave brushes out on the ends to create some texture and volume for that Donna Summer look. I asked Ted if this style could be considered for a bride and he said “Absolutely!” He also added that you should try this look a few weeks before your big day and bring your hairstylist pictures of what you’re trying to achieve for your wedding day, and it also works well with hair extensions. And he puts emphasis on NOT CUTTING YOUR HAIR BEFORE THE WEDDING; coloring you hair before the wedding is a good idea if you would like a bold or slight change.

What’s great hair without flawless face! Brian C. Hawkins gave me the rundown on the look that he created for the runway. Brian said that he was given direction from designer Alex Vinash to go for glamorous, seductive look with a hint of nightlife. Beautiful clean skin with mascara and a very, very red lip. Brian adds that the red lip was once known and worn by women who were making a statement: Daring and strong; almost taboo, but all that has changed. It’s always a statement. He says the key to a good red lip is beautiful skin. Make sure that you moisturize and get facials—it’s very important. He said, “I used to deny myself facials and that was a big mistake. Now I can’t live without one. It’s the best thing that you can do for yourself, and drink plenty of water!” Brain added, “Don’t be afraid of a red or orange lip. They come with different undertones. Take your time and choose one that works best for you.”

Lead manicurist Tee Hundley took it up a notch with a custom-made bright pink nail polish for fall. Tee recommends adding a pop of color to nails to give you a fresh feeling. And just because it’s fall that doesn’t mean you can’t wear a peek of color. Her picks for fall of 2017 are yellows, blues, and pinks!
