North End Nuptials! Boston’s Little Italy is Great Spot to Tie the Knot

Looking to get hitched in a neighborhood brimming with history, heritage, cafes, and cannolis? Walk the cobblestone streets of Boston’s North End to discover a slice of Little Italy where the air is perfumed with romance and rigatoni and the spaces to say “I Do’  are just as delicious.  We checked in with insider Anna Frattaroli to lead a neighborhood tour.

Anna and her husband Filippo met at a dance in the North End over four decades ago. Filippo grew up in the Abruzzo region of Southern Italy and wanted to bring the flavors of his area to Boston so he bought a funeral home in 1976 and transformed it to create Lucia Ristorante, now the oldest family-owned and operated the restaurant in the North End.

She adores that weddings in the North End have the same vibe that they do in Italy where couples marry in neighborhood churches and stroll through the street to the receptions. Family, food, wine, love, and laughter… that’s the Italian way!  Here are some ideas of ways to celebrate your nuptials in and around the North End.

Where to host a reception
Located a short 10 minute walk away from the North End and offering the Boston waterfront serving as a grand backdrop, the Boston Harbor Hotel offers a distinctive collection of wedding venues steeped in a signature “classically current” luxury and sophistication

Where to stay
The Battery Wharf Hotel is right in the North End, along the Harborwalk, and just a short skip away is The Boxer Boston and the Hotel Indigo Boston Garden, both in the West End.

Where to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner
Lucia Ristorante and Filippo Ristorante are great choices along with Ducali Pizzeria & Bar, which serves up brunch, lunch, and dinner. For guests staying at area hotels, there’s The Finch at The Boxer Hotel and Blake’s Kitchen + Bar, which serves up a variety of New England classics with a twist, both for breakfast, brunch and dinner.

Where to enjoy a sweet
Be sure to pop by Mike’s Pastry or Modern Pastry on Hanover street to enjoy a cannoli or Italian pastry.  Anna recommends popping by  Maria’s Pastry on Cross Street to grab an authentic Sfogliatelle and also experiencing 18-century chocolate at Captain Jackson’s Historic Chocolate shop at the Old North Church.
