Asian women are known worldwide for their flawless skin and daily multi-step skincare routine. Due to Asian women’s neutral skin tone and yellow undertones, whitening skin has become essential. In many Asian homes women may use more than five products to create their flawless look. They vary by brand but usually include facial foam, pore minimizing scrub, cleansing oil, moisture toner, whitening cream, and sleeping mask. It is interesting to note that Asian men have embraced many of the skincare tips and routines in China, South Korea and Japan for years.
Growing up in China, I witnessed firsthand the trend of skincare obsession in the recent decade. As the Chinese proverb says, “A white cover three ugly,” Chinese women are becoming more and more concerned to protect their skin from the sunlight, which causes serious harm to the skin, primarily aging and brown spots. In addition to the must-wear sunblock, Chinese women use umbrellas against the sun in the summer all the time.
