Frida Kahlo, Mexico’s most iconic female artist, taking center stage in New York City’s art world is definitely something worth seeing on your time off from planning your wedding. Her environmental thinking may have been way ahead of her time, but in today’s urban life more and more people are trying to relate to Kahlo’s core values of plaint human relationships.
Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) began painting after she was injured in a bus accident; and is well known for her creative self-portraits and admired for her active role in political and feminist causes. Prior to her death Frida exhibited in Paris and Mexico and has since become well known for her artistic role in society.
Casa Azul aka the Blue House in Mexico City, is the foundation of many of Kahlo’s paintings. The garden still found at her home today has been recreated in the New York Botanical Gardens with the assistance and creativity of a guest Curator, designers and horticulturists. As the colors, textures and overall joyful feeling flows into your consciousness, the understanding of her depiction of pre-Hispanic heritage of Mexican folk art comes to full awareness.

Frida Kahlo Art Garden Life will be open from May 16 to November 1, 2015 Tuesdays to Sundays. Her brilliant yellows, blues, and reds should be on your summer to-do list, whether it be the exhibit in New York or in Mexico City.
