The 2010 Miley Cyrus movie was filmed on Tybee Island, also known as “Savannah’s Beach,” and is a hot spot for summer weddings. The lovely southern city has been voted one of the 10 Most Beautiful Places in America by USA Weekend Magazine, most likely due to its twenty-two squares throughout its downtown area, all with stately fountains or monuments, planted flowers and gorgeous live oaks covered in Spanish moss.
Every square has a rich history behind it, as each is dedicated to a veteran or government official from 1790 to 1851, and there is plenty of room for the bridal party, groomsmen, and guests in the average of sixty square feet of greenery. Savannah’s largest park, Forsyth Park, features thick green lawns, a pristine fountain, and a band shell, a picturesque possibility for ceremonies and receptions. With its permanent blue skies, Savannah can house elegant weddings, indoors and out. The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist stands right off of Lafayette Square and features remarkable stained glass and architecture. The beauty of this 142-year-old cathedral has yet to cease amazing me.
Savannah’s love for historic perseveration and art originate mainly from the Savannah College of Art and Design and the city is home to countless museums and art galleries. Savannah’s menu of staple southern favorites and exotic cuisine are sure to please and with its old timey theatres, like the Lucas Theater, and ice cream parlors, like the well known Leopold’s, the city feels classic and original.
Its small town charisma will give any wedding another charming element and its southern hospitality can relax even the tightest wound bride. Between Savannah’s stunning city parks and its clean beaches at Tybee Island, there are a million and one reasons why Savannah is a perfect destination for the special day.
