Early April is bridal week in NYC where the industry celebrates weddings and of course that once in a lifetime bridal dress. This is the second season that covid prevented in-person shows but the pandemic couldn’t stop the optimism of I do’s and the bridal fashion newness to emerge. Dress options abounded for every personality and type of nuptial you can envision with trends surfacing from minimalist to over the top extravaganza. There were fiery crimson spectacular ball gowns and Cinderella pale sapphire confections. Other stand out details were horticultural prints, romantic ruffles, side slits and sassy minis. The Bridal Council’s web site is a good starting point to get to know the designers behind the gowns and see the hottest trends in bridal.

Naeem Kahn feels very optimistic about dressing up especially for weddings, and is his bridal collection channels the Roaring Twenties. He created a number of flapper mini dresses, lace jumpsuits and gowns with his signature embroidery and laser-cut out fabrics many of which can have a life beyond the wedding. The addition of black lace hosiery and black opera length gloves, infused the collection with spice. He used jeweled pieces in the center forehead, worn in traditional Indian style, as an ode to his heritage. It’s a fresh way of adorning the hair instead of with a head piece— an idea for brides to consider. https://naeemkhan.com

A new collection emerged on bridal week with a very familiar name, Professor Jimmy Choo, OBE. The designer created lavishly voluminous gowns inspired by Art Nouveau. Nature motifs were expressed with embroidery and beading adding natural elements to the silhouettes. The lavish line-up includes a crimson ball gown for slightly subversive brides; it looked both vampy and demure at the same time. https://cfda.com/news/the-atelier-couture-by-prof-jimmy-choo-obe-bridal-spring-2022
