“It’s the kind of kiss that inspires stars to climb into the sky and light up the world.”

Tahereh Mafi

Looking to feel the magic author Tahereh Mafi describes? We thought so which is why we reached out to two experts, Shirley Powell, founder of  LaJeanell and Nick Lujan, Kevyn Aucoin’s director of education and Makeup Artist, to discover how to get the most kissable lips for your big day. Read on to discover their how-to guide for kissable lips.

“Your lips are the most noticeable part of a woman’s face. First impressions are of utmost importance, especially on your wedding day. Lips are sexy, sensual, and very desirable to be kissed. Keep them healthy and nourished,” says Powell. “Lips are an immediate attention grabber. For bridal, you want to address all features of the face, so the final images tell a full story,” notes Lujan.

Essential Products

Powell’s checklist includes Vitamin E for healing properties. A lip moisturizer for hydration. A luxurious lip color with moisturizer to add volume, plumping and natural softness, and a dewy pout. Lip contour liner for shaping your lips and to keep lip color from bleeding.

Lip tips

Lujan gives some great tips for enhancing the wearability of your lip products.

  • Exfoliate your lips in the days leading up to the big day.
  • On the day of the wedding, apply a hydrating lip mask in the morning and keep the lips moisturized until the makeup application takes place.
  • Use a waterproof long wear lip product (apply in thin sheer layers, allow to dry between layers).
  • If using regular wear lip products, use a translucent loose setting powder between layers to lock them in place.
  • Use a bold lip color for photos, and maybe switch a nude lip for the after party.

Lips trends

“Clean beauty is dominating the market right now. People are seeking simplified and natural skincare and makeup beauty products for health and wellness, that are quality, effortless and fun!” says Powell.  “A bride should follow her personal self-expression and style on her special day. Her look should define her, not about what is always trending or considered timeless. I always recommend to be true to self and show your beauty from within,” Powell advises.

Daily care

“Exfoliate and moisturize your lips daily. Create a natural dewy and fresh skin appearance. Hydrate your lips during the day and at night,” says Powell. Lujan agrees that hydration is essential. “ Start by always hydrating the lip. Apply it first thing in the morning so it has time to work its magic before applying lip products,” Lujan says.

Trending colors

“Chic, bold and colorful including bright pink. Natural peachy and pink tones are trending as well. Pastel and matte are true classic shades and always in style. Nudes, Matte Reds, Purple, Cherry, and versatile shades and tones are popular this spring too,” says Powell.

Avoid this mistake

What is one mistake that every bride makes when thinking about her lips?

The shade chosen for lips may be too dramatic and may end up being the sole highlight in bridal portraits.

Sage advice

I recommend exfoliating your lips for dry patches. Keep lips moisturized, nourished, and hydrated. Make your lips irresistible. Natural soft skin will create kissable desirable luxurious lips, for kiss after kiss after more kisses!
