Where & How Did You Meet?
Jai and I met on Hinge on July 11, 2023, and we got married exactly a year later on July 11, 2024. It was purely coincidental, with a little play of auspicious dates; it felt like we were destined to be husband and wife. During our six months of dating, we discovered that not only did we live in the same area, but we also didn’t have too many mutual friends. Aside from our shared values and interests, love for food, music, and adventure sports (we went skydiving in South Africa on our honeymoon, among other activities), Jai and I both love the arts—it became our thing. Jai would sportingly attend jazz concerts and art shows with me, as they were things I very much enjoyed doing.
After a whirlwind six months of hush-hush romance (mine knew right from the get-go, while his caught on toward the latter half of 2023), Jai started dropping hints about a proposal after we had met each other’s parents and friends and knew we were meant to be. I was slated to go to Paris Fashion Haute Couture Week in January, and he was going to make a pit stop in Paris from Chile (he was on a work trip). Although I felt like I had all the clues, it was still a complete surprise when Jai asked me to go out to dinner at a surprise location—it turned out to be my favorite hotel in the world, The Ritz Hotel in Place Vendôme, on January 19, 2024.
After showing him around one of the salons where I had won an award in April 2022 (that’s why the place meant so much to me), we enjoyed dinner and shared anecdotes about our grandfathers while listening to a mellifluous pianist. As we walked down the corridor of the hotel, Jai halted me, and I knew this was it. He proposed on bent knee next to my favorite staircase, reciting from a letter he had fervently written to me while in Chile. I said, ‘Oui.’ He had no idea that this was a dream come true for me; he only knew about my love for the city. I had always wanted a proposal in Paris in my twenties, even forgetting about it, and was reminded that the universe is always listening when this materialized—a pinch-me moment.

Where Did You Get Married & Why Did You Pick That Location?
We got married at The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, one of the most iconic hotels in India, offering a palatial feel within a bustling city environment. We wanted the affair to be intimate, elegant, and, most importantly, timeless. The iconic hotel recently celebrated its 120th anniversary and has played an integral role in India’s rich history, both pre- and post-independence.

What Was The Most Important Thing To Each Of You When Planning Your Wedding?
It was of great importance to us that we spent enough time with each guest who graced us with their presence at our wedding. We didn’t want the celebration to be over the top and overpower the symbolism of the main ceremony, as those were the most moving moments for both Jai and me. We also paid great attention to the finer details and traditions, while embracing individualism. Our wholly art-inspired wedding and French Jardin-style ceremony were a testament to our joint creativity and love story, all while keeping the rooted traditions of our Marwari and Gujarati cultures in mind.

What Does Family Mean To You?
Trust falls. No matter the circumstance, family stands with you in both good and bad times. For both Jai and me, family always comes first.

What Tips Would You Give To A Couple Planning Their Wedding?
The only piece of advice we would like to offer is to be yourselves and not follow in others’ footsteps. Make it about yourselves and your families—not trends. Ours was a first-of-its-kind, art-inspired wedding cocktail party in India, entirely designed by Jai and me—it’s what our guests remember the most.
