LayerUp! with Jocelyn: 3 Tips for Living with Purpose to Attract Your Ideal Mate

“To thine own self be true.” This famous line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet speaks of authenticity—a quality we often overlook when seeking love. Too often, people make the mistake of creating imaginary guidelines or checklists to attract the “perfect” mate, which only sets them up for disappointment. No one should complete you; rather, they should complement your life. It’s important to embrace an intentional approach to “living with purpose—on purpose.”

Living with purpose means aligning with our values through a lifestyle enriched by mindfulness, spirituality, self-healing, wellness practices, and intentional movement. A balanced life, grounded in nutrition, exercise, and self-care, increases the chances of attracting a partner who can be a true champion and ally. When two people are genuinely aligned in purpose, their relationship becomes a powerful collaboration.

Here are my top three tips:

Mindfulness

The cornerstone of living with purpose, mindfulness shapes every decision we make, from dietary choices to the relationships we nurture. By focusing on the present moment without judgment, we cultivate awareness, allowing us to act with intention instead of reacting impulsively. This conscious living helps filter out distractions and creates space for meaningful connections.

Spirituality

Spirituality, however it resonates with you, offers a foundation for purposeful living. Whether through religious faith, a connection to nature, or simply recognizing our place in the universe, spirituality connects us to something greater than ourselves. It grounds us, keeps us motivated, and helps us make decisions that align with our higher selves.

Self-Healing

Purposeful living also involves healing, empowering us to confront emotional and physical wounds and move forward with clarity. Through self-reflection, journaling, and support from trusted sources, we can let go of limiting beliefs. Physical practices like exercise, massage, and even occasional spa treatments enhance mental clarity and reduce anxiety, allowing us to thrive with purpose.

For me, practices like yoga, Reiki, pranayama (breathwork), and meditation bring these elements together, centering me and fostering inner peace. A recent journey to Crete, Greece, for a seven-day yoga retreat in Ferma, a seaside village in the municipality of Ierapetra, was transformational. Immersed in fresh, organic food and rejuvenating swims in the Aegean Sea, I welcomed a newfound vitality.

Following the retreat, I ventured south of Heraklion to the Palace of Knossos, a Bronze Age archaeological site that was a major center of the Minoan civilization. Before heading home, I spent a few days in Santorini, where I enjoyed a private snorkeling excursion and hiked the winding paths along the caldera in Oia, famous for its breathtaking sunset views. I purchased Aristotle’s On Happiness at Atlantis Books, nestled on the cliffs of Firostefani, discovered great libations and music at Kira Thira Jazz Bar, and indulged in a spontaneous relaxing spa experience, making the visit truly unforgettable. Living this way isn’t an ideal but an attainable reality that enriches our lives and those we share it with – be it a partner or a friend. Remember, we attract the energy we radiate.
