On your wedding day you don’t just want to look pretty: You want to look marvelous. You want to take the breath away of your beloved and all your guests. That is your Oscar moment. We are not talking about the Oscar that is given out in Hollywood. We are talking about the one and only, iconic genius in fashion the late Mr. Oscar de la Renta.
There has been no greater man I have met to be this kind, genuine, gracious and brilliant. The look of kindness you see when you gaze into his eyes in pictures is the exact man you would have met in person. A true gentleman. A true latin gentleman still very connected to his home and his people, giving back to the people of the island, in Santa Domingo.
So to have this sort of man design your gown on your special day is an Oscar moment at its finest. Consider yourself blessed if you are able to wear one of his pieces designed by him, that bears his name.
We at WBM share his last collection for Spring 2015 that showed before he left us. Oscar de la Renta will always be remembered by us with great fondness. I will always remember the last moment I was on set with him in his studio shooting the cover of Gotham Magazine. Priceless. With love and respect for the legacy he leaves behind, and praises to his loving family.
But who was Oscar de la Renta? Oscar de la Renta was a Dominican American designer, born in Santo Domingo, who changed the face of fashion. Oscar de la Renta—professionally known—worked under some fashion greats himself such as Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre, Lanvin and Balmain, and dressed American Royalties Jacqueline Kennedy to Amal Alamuddin.
So to all our brides reading this, own a piece of Oscar de la Renta for your special day, you will own a piece of history.
