Meeting Jason Jules in Lisbon, Portugal—where he is currently living—was more than a casual stop on my European journey. I made a special trip there to conduct this interview for our upcoming Men of Style issue of World Bride Magazine for 2025. It turned into an education in style, culture, and creative legacy. As the author of Black Ivy: A Revolt in Style, Jules has not only captured the enduring elegance of mid-century Black American men but has also carved out his own lane as a tastemaker, storyteller, and visionary.
Jules is the epitome of fashionable elegance. Whether dressed up or dressed down, his look is always intentional, polished, and authentically his own. My first encounter with his work came through Black Ivy—a book I couldn’t put down. Each page told a deeper story about identity, resistance, and the role of fashion in cultural expression. That book became the blueprint for this year’s editorial direction.
Beyond his role as an author, Jason Jules is a multi-dimensional creative with a storied career spanning film, fashion, advertising, and editorial work. He’s collaborated with cultural giants including Nike, BAPE, Levi’s, and i-D Magazine, and lent his unique lens to campaigns for Louis Vuitton x Tyler, the Creator, Drakes, and Barbour. His film projects, like The Modernist and The Missing Thread, further reveal his deep commitment to highlighting underrepresented voices and iconic figures such as John Simons and Joe Casely-Hayford.

Now, Jules adds a new chapter to his journey—footwear design. Through his label Garmsville, he has partnered with Sheffield-based heritage shoemaker Goral to launch the Garmsville by Goral deck shoe, set to release April 24, 2025. This modern classic merges Ivy League influence with streetwear sensibility, built with premium herringbone waxed cotton from Halley Stevenson, navy vegetable-tanned leather, and Blake Stitch construction for enduring quality.
Designed to be worn unlaced, with dual lace options and full leather lining, this shoe isn’t just stylish—it’s sustainable, repairable, and built to last. Jules’ attention to detail is evident in every element, a testament to his lifelong devotion to excellence in design.
Jason Jules is more than a man of style—he’s a cultural architect. And with every new project, he continues to inspire a generation of men to express themselves with authenticity, intellect, and elegance.
