Travel has the remarkable ability to meet us exactly where we are in life. Sometimes we travel to celebrate love, new beginnings, and milestones. Other times, we travel carrying grief, searching for peace in places we’ve never been. My recent journey to Morocco was both.
Just one week before arriving in Morocco, I lost my father while on a business trip to Malta. The loss was overwhelming, and I questioned whether I should continue traveling. I worried about how others might perceive my decision. Looking back, I now know that saying yes to Morocco was one of the greatest gifts I could have given myself.
As human beings, we long for connection. We seek it in our happiest moments—engagements, weddings, anniversaries—and we need it just as desperately during life’s deepest sorrows. Those two emotions often exist side by side. I was reminded of this after watching a young bride-to-be share the heartbreak of planning her wedding without her mother, who had recently passed away. She spoke about finding meaningful ways to honor her mother’s presence on a day she had always imagined sharing together. Her story resonated deeply because I understood that pain all too well.
Yet Morocco gently reminded me that love never truly leaves us.
Surrounded by some of the world’s most respected wedding professionals, I found myself embraced by compassion, friendship, and genuine care. Once they learned of my loss, they became protective in ways that required no words. Their kindness reflected the very spirit of Morocco itself.
Few destinations awaken the senses quite like Morocco. Located at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, the country is a captivating blend of Berber, Arab, African, Andalusian, Jewish, and French influences. Its imperial cities, centuries-old medinas, majestic Atlas Mountains, vast Sahara Desert, and Atlantic coastline tell stories spanning more than a thousand years.
Everywhere I looked, Morocco celebrated color. The rich red earth surrounding Marrakech, brilliant blue doors, intricate mosaics, colorful textiles, and bustling souks created an unforgettable canvas. The country’s gastronomy is equally inspiring. Fragrant spices such as saffron, cumin, cinnamon, and ras el hanout transform locally sourced ingredients into unforgettable tagines, couscous, fresh pastries, and aromatic mint tea. Every meal becomes an invitation to gather, converse, and celebrate life.
What moved me most, however, was the people.
A simple hand placed over the heart—a traditional Moroccan greeting—communicates something profoundly beautiful: “You are welcomed from my heart.” That single gesture embodies Moroccan hospitality. Whether in a luxury hotel or a neighborhood market, visitors are treated not as tourists but as honored guests.

One experience, however, will remain with me forever.
Watching the sunrise from a hot air balloon over the Moroccan landscape was breathtaking. Floating silently above the desert and valleys, I felt closer to God than I had in months. It was a moment of healing, reflection, and gratitude that words can scarcely describe.
Luxury certainly has its place in Morocco. One important tip for travelers is to choose the right season for your visit. Morocco’s geography creates diverse climates throughout the year. Coastal regions remain relatively mild, while Marrakech and the desert can become extremely hot during summer months. Spring (March through May) and autumn (September through November) generally offer the most comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and outdoor experiences. Selecting the right season will greatly enhance your journey.
Finally, remember that tourism sustains communities. Shop within your means, support local artisans, dine at locally owned restaurants, and learn the stories behind the crafts you purchase. Every purchase contributes to preserving Morocco’s rich cultural traditions for future generations.
