D’angelo Thompson: The Artist, the Mentor, the Light

In the glittering world of beauty and entertainment, where talent often blends into the background noise, D’angelo Thompson’s light shines unmistakably bright. I had the distinct pleasure of working alongside D’angelo during my own journey as a celebrity manicurist, and even then, his presence was unforgettable. His generous spirit, tireless work ethic, and kind heart left an imprint far deeper than any brushstroke or hairpin ever could.

D’angelo’s rise to the top of the beauty, film, and television industries felt inevitable. While his artistry speaks volumes—his signature touch has been seen in television, editorial spreads, and high-profile clients—it’s his willingness to serve, teach, and elevate others that truly defines him. In a competitive space, he chose not only to thrive but to bring others along with him. He didn’t just follow a career path; he built a calling.

Born in rural Mississippi, raised in Chicago, and now based in Brooklyn, New York, D’angelo was destined for the world of beauty. “It was always in my blood,” he shares. A friend in college gave him the nudge, but once he entered the industry, he never looked back. He trained at top institutions like The Makeup Institute of California, Makeup Forever, and iconic mentors like Alfred Fornay, Byron Barnes, and Sherry Lee (SF), but his education never truly ended—nor did his desire to educate others.

His work has graced productions such as  Law & Order: SVU, AHS NYC, I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY,  The Wendy Williams Show (where he earned multiple Emmy nominations), campaigns for brands like ISAIA, DILLARDS, GAP, and others. Still, D’angelo’s creativity knows no boundaries—his love of makeup spills into brand development, private clientele, and teaching. Through DTProCrew, he mentored many flourishing careers, he believes in nurturing the next generation of artists.

As an author, his books like Enhanced Beauty, Enhanced Beauty for Teens, Enhanced Beauty: Men’s Grooming,  A 100 Days of Gratitude, Gratitude Is A Journey, and a new book coming soon (Spring 2025)  extend his wisdom beyond the chair.

His top tips for wedding beauty are to book your glam squad early, hire professionals—not friends, and always keep a touch-up bag close, curated by the lead artist.

Some of his favorite products are Kevyn Aucoin Beauty foundations, Fenty Beauty powders, especially the translucent formulation, and Juvia’s Place blushes. D’angelo’s favorite items are as vibrant as his personality, but no product shines brighter than his spirit. In a world of trends and turnover, D’angelo Thompson remains a timeless force—graceful, grounded, and always glowing.
