In many ways, visiting Walt Disney World is more than a simple trip. Rather, it’s a wondrous journey into one’s childhood imagination, allowing us each to live out greatest lifelong fantasies. Whether outrunning comets on Space Mountain or encountering playful spirits in Haunted Mansion, a trip to any one of Walt Disney World’s properties can lead to memories capable of lasting a lifetime.
Of course, one notable aspect behind Walt Disney World’s continued popularity has to do with its assortment of hotels within the property. With over two dozen resort hotels making up Disney World, it can almost be a tad intimidating knowing which properties to stay at for a specific occasion. With that in mind, we spoke with Korri McFann, Marketing and Sales Strategy Director within Disney’s Fairytale Weddings & Honeymoons program, who offered some key insights into some of the best hotels to stay at for the set group you’re traveling with.
For Honeymooners and Vacationing Couples
For those celebrating a major occasion such as a recent wedding, McFann specifically mentioned that Deluxe Resorts like Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney Contemporary Resort or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa are all capable of providing a lasting experience you and your significant other will talk about for years to come.
“Nicknamed the crown jewel of Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa blends Victorian elegance with charm and comfort. Each design detail is a love letter to its Floridian roots and the golden age of travel that inspired it,” McFann said. “From dining experiences to relaxing lounges and boutique shopping, the Grand Floridian’s charm, amenities and proximity to Magic Kingdom provide a truly magical and luxurious escape for any honeymoon.”
For Families with Younger Children
It’s no surprise that many of Disney’s visitors are families with younger kids. For those groups, McFann pointed to the highly underrated Art of Animation Resort as a viable option, mainly due to the immersive atmosphere of each room and the convenient access to transportation services to and from the park.
“The family suites are designed with comfort and convenience, featuring separate bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchenette,” McFann explained. “Each suite has a playful atmosphere that both kids and adults will enjoy. It also has seamless access to Disney Skyliner, a unique and scenic transportation system connected to EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and other resort hotels.”
For Families with Older Children
In contrast, certain families might be traveling with older children, such as preteens, teenagers, or young adults. In this case, a more amenity-filled resort like Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort could be a great choice, thanks in large part to its close proximity to EPCOT and Disney’s neighboring BoardWalk Hotel.
“Families can relax at the tranquil Stormalong Bay – a unique sand bottom pool that offers a water park-style experience,” McFann said of the Yacht & Beach Club. “This resort has it all, including elegant rooms, great lounges and recreational activities that provide both relaxation and adventure to delight the entire family.”

Another great option might be found at the Spanish Colonial-inspired Coronado Springs Resort, which features a massive pool and plenty of on-site entertainment options.
“The resort features 360º views of Lago Dorado, a scenic lake, and stunning architecture inspired by Spanish, Mexican and Southwest American cultures and art,” McFann said. “During your stay, cool off in the feature pool under a 50-foot replica of a Mayan pyramid, or try your hand at making your own sangria in a class led by our talented beverage professionals.”
For the “Ultimate” Disney Experience
As with any other vacation, some travelers tend to enjoy going all out on their trip to Disney, looking for the very best experiences The Most Magical Place on Earth has to offer. If you’re one of these individuals, McFann pointed to the breathtaking Animal Kingdom Lodge as the foremost hotel capable of providing the “essential Disney experience.”
“It’s a uniquely immersive resort hotel inspired by traditional African wildlife lodges, which you can experience through its architecture, décor and up-close views of live animals wandering the savanna right outside of many guest areas,” McFann said. “Be sure to take advantage of the themed activities, cultural programming and authentic dining offerings.”
For a More Budget-Friendly Trip
While some groups might spare no expense on their spellbinding Disney vacation, others might prefer to maintain a tighter budget when it comes to booking a room at any one of the hotels within the property. For these groups, McFann recommended staying at the opulent Port Orleans Resort, an excellent option for newlyweds looking for a fun-filled Disney trip without putting too much strain on their finances.
“Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter are the perfect getaways for couples or families looking for a budget-friendly hotel option with distinctly Disney touches,” McFann said. “Each provides a cozy atmosphere inspired by New Orleans and rural Louisiana, complete with Southern-inspired cuisine, lively lounges, live jazz entertainment and romantic horse-drawn carriages.”
