The wedding planning journey can often feel overwhelming for newly engaged couples. While the excitement of planning your big day is undeniable, it can also come with a fair share of stress and countless decisions to navigate. After all the effort and energy spent on orchestrating a memorable wedding, the idea of a lavish honeymoon might seem like the perfect reward. However, I’ve learned through both my professional experience and personal journey that this may not always be the best approach for every couple.
As a bride and a wedding professional, I discovered that the thought of planning our honeymoon during the wedding preparations was daunting. My focus was already consumed by the big day, and the last thing I wanted was to feel additional pressure. Instead, we chose a more manageable and rejuvenating option: a minimoon.
A minimoon isn’t a novel concept, but it’s gaining traction as a fantastic alternative to a traditional honeymoon. We opted for a relaxed four-day getaway to Key West just two days after our February wedding. This location was ideal for us—a short trip that still felt like an escape. The beauty of a minimoon lies in its simplicity. There’s no pressure to create an extensive itinerary, just the freedom to relish each moment and bask in the post-wedding bliss.
As a bridal stylist, I’ve had the privilege of guiding countless couples through the ups and downs of wedding planning. Having recently experienced the journey as a bride myself, I gained invaluable insights that I now share with my clients. Merging my professional expertise with the personal understanding of what it feels like to be in their shoes allows me to provide a more empathetic and informed perspective.
Our time in Key West allowed us to disconnect from everyday life and focus on each other without distractions. We enjoyed the charming streets of Old Town, dined at delightful restaurants, and engaged in intimate conversations about our future. This experience made it clear to me how important it is to celebrate that precious time after the wedding, nurturing the connection and memories you’ve just created.
During our minimoon, we drove from Miami to Key West, enjoying stunning views along the iconic Seven Mile Bridge. We stayed at the Southernmost Inn, a charming hotel that offered a quaint atmosphere, and friendly smiles upon our arrival. The hotel even upgraded us to a balcony suite as a delightful surprise upon learning we were newlyweds.

The flexibility of our days was the highlight. Rather than adhering to a strict schedule, we savored each experience at our own pace. From enjoying a delicious brunch at Blue Heaven (make sure to arrive early due to the waitlist) to indulging in a romantic lunch at Latitudes—a spot accessible only by a charming ferry—we reveled in spontaneity. Each moment was dedicated to enjoying each other’s company, without the stress of a checklist.

I wholeheartedly recommend the idea of a minimoon as a way to rejuvenate and cherish the early days of marriage. After navigating the complexities of wedding planning, taking a step back to simply enjoying each other’s presence can be one of the most rewarding experiences for any couple. Celebrate this unique time together, focus on the joys of your relationship, and create lasting memories that will set the tone for your journey ahead.
