Wedding Season Wellness: The Wedding Morning Blueprint

Bride waking up on her wedding day filled with excitement and joy.
Getting Ready for the Big Day.

How to Feel Calm, Radiant & Fully Present on the Most Important Morning of Your Life

There Are Only a Handful of Mornings That Change Your Life

Some mornings quietly pass us by.

Others become part of who we are forever.

The morning you graduate.

The morning you welcome a child into the world.

And the morning you marry the person you love.

Long before the music begins, before your dress is fastened, before your father sees you for the first time, before your partner waits nervously at the end of the aisle…

There is a moment.

A quiet moment.

Just you.

You open your eyes.

The room is still.

Sunlight filters softly through the curtains.

Your wedding dress hangs silently nearby, waiting for the day you’ve imagined for months—perhaps even years.

Then it hits you.

Today is the day.

Your heart beats a little faster.

Your mind immediately begins making lists.

Will everything run on time?

Will everyone be here?

Will I cry?

Will I look beautiful?

It’s completely natural.

Your body is experiencing excitement, anticipation, joy and perhaps even a little uncertainty—all at once.

The wonderful thing is that excitement and anxiety create remarkably similar sensations inside the body.

Both increase your heart rate.

Both quicken your breathing.

Both release adrenaline.

The difference isn’t what your body is doing.

The difference is how you choose to respond.

Most brides spend months preparing their dress.

Their flowers.

Their venue.

Their guest list.

Very few prepare the one thing that experiences every single moment of the day.

Themselves.

Because long after the flowers have faded and the cake has been eaten, you won’t remember whether every ribbon was perfectly tied.

You’ll remember how you felt.

Were you calm?

Were you present?

Did you pause long enough to soak it all in?

Did you truly experience one of the most meaningful days of your life?

Today isn’t about chasing perfection.

Today is about creating presence.

Let’s build a morning that allows you to do exactly that.

“Years from now, you won’t remember every detail of your wedding day. You’ll remember how you felt.”

Before You Reach for Your Phone

The very first decision you make on your wedding morning has the power to influence the entire day.

For many of us, that decision happens almost automatically.

The alarm sounds.

Our hand reaches for the phone.

Messages begin arriving.

Photographs from the rehearsal dinner.

Questions from family.

Notifications.

Emails.

Social media.

Within moments, our brain has gone from peaceful sleep to processing dozens of pieces of information.

Before you’ve even left your bed, your nervous system is already working overtime.

Instead, I encourage you to give yourself one simple gift.

Five uninterrupted minutes.

No phone.

No scrolling.

No outside world.

Simply breathe.

Walk to the window.

Open the curtains.

Allow natural morning light to fall across your face.

Smile.

Listen to the quiet.

This isn’t wasted time.

It’s one of the healthiest things you can do for your body.

Morning sunlight sends an important signal to a tiny region of your brain called the suprachiasmatic nucleus—your body’s master biological clock.

This internal clock regulates your circadian rhythm, influencing everything from your energy levels and hormone production to your digestion, mood and sleep.

Natural light also supports your Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR).

Although cortisol is often called the stress hormone, that’s only part of the story.

Healthy cortisol levels naturally rise shortly after waking to help you feel alert, focused and energized.

Problems arise when we add unnecessary stress before our body has had the chance to wake naturally.

Allow your body to wake with light instead of notifications.

Your nervous system will thank you.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Morning sunlight helps…

-Regulate your circadian rhythm

-Improve alertness and concentration

-Support better sleep later that evening

-Enhance mood through natural light exposure

-Encourage healthy cortisol rhythms

MONICA RECOMMENDS

Before checking your phone…

✔ Open the curtains.

✔ Drink a full glass of water.

✔ Stand barefoot if possible.

✔ Take five slow ASAMHA™ breaths.

✔ Begin the day by looking outward—not downward at a screen.

Fuel the Bride, Not Just the Dress

For months you’ve planned every detail of your wedding day.

The venue.

The flowers.

The music.

The dress.

Yet one of the most important decisions you’ll make happens before your hair and makeup even begin.

What you choose to eat.

Many brides wake feeling excited, emotional, or simply too nervous to eat.

Others skip breakfast because they’re worried about feeling bloated or fitting into their dress.

Ironically, this often creates the very problems they’re trying to avoid.

Your body has been fasting throughout the night.

For eight to ten hours, it has been repairing tissues, balancing hormones, restoring the brain, and preparing you for a new day.

When you wake, your body isn’t asking for restriction.

It’s asking for nourishment.

Think of your breakfast as the first opportunity to care for yourself before you spend the rest of the day caring for everyone else.

Why Protein Matters

If there is one nutrient I encourage every bride to prioritise on her wedding morning, it is protein.

Protein provides the amino acids your body uses to repair tissues, support muscles, produce enzymes, and create many of the hormones and neurotransmitters that influence your mood and energy.

Unlike refined carbohydrates, protein is digested more slowly.

This means it helps keep your blood sugar levels stable, reducing the dramatic highs and lows that can leave you feeling shaky, emotional, hungry, or fatigued.

Steady blood sugar also supports clearer thinking, helping you stay focused and present throughout the day.

Excellent wedding morning choices include:

  • Eggs
  • Greek yogurt
  • Cottage cheese
  • Smoked salmon
  • Tofu or tempeh
  • A quality protein smoothie if you’re unable to eat a full meal

The goal isn’t to eat a large breakfast.

The goal is to eat a smart one.

Healthy Fats Are Your Friend

For years, dietary fat was unfairly blamed for weight gain.

Today we understand that the right kinds of fat play an essential role in overall health.

Healthy fats help build cell membranes, support the absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K, contribute to hormone production, and provide long-lasting energy.

They also slow digestion, helping you feel comfortably satisfied for longer.

On your wedding morning, include foods such as:

Avocado

Walnuts

Chia seeds

Extra virgin olive oil

Almonds

These foods nourish both your brain and your body.

Remember…

Your brain is nearly 60% fat.

Feed it well.

The Sugar Roller Coaster

One of the biggest mistakes I see is the “quick breakfast.”

A pastry.

Sweet cereal.

White toast with jam.

A muffin grabbed on the way to hair and makeup.

These foods are rapidly broken down into glucose.

Your blood sugar rises quickly.

Your pancreas responds by releasing insulin.

Soon after, blood sugar falls again.

The result?

Low energy.

Hunger.

Brain fog.

Mood swings.

Sugar cravings.

Exactly what you don’t want while walking down the aisle or standing for photographs.

Instead, choose foods that release energy gradually.

Your body will thank you all day long.

Coffee First? Think Again…

For many people, coffee is the first thing they reach for each morning.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with enjoying coffee.

However, timing matters.

Caffeine is a natural stimulant.

It works by blocking adenosine, a chemical that helps us feel sleepy, making us feel more alert.

It also temporarily increases adrenaline and can enhance your body’s natural cortisol response.

On an ordinary day this may simply make you feel awake.

On your wedding morning, when you’re already experiencing excitement, it may amplify feelings of nervousness, increase your heart rate, or leave you feeling jittery.

Coffee can also contribute to mild fluid loss in some people.

Hydration is essential if you want your skin to look radiant and your body to feel its best.

Instead…

Begin with a full glass of water.

Even better, warm water with fresh lemon.

The fluid helps replace what you’ve lost overnight, while the lemon adds flavour and encourages many people to drink more.

If you’re looking for something soothing, consider a herbal tea such as chamomile, lemon balm, rooibos, or peppermint.

If coffee is part of your daily ritual, enjoy it after you’ve hydrated and eaten breakfast rather than on an empty stomach.

Hydration Is Beauty’s Secret Ingredient

No expensive serum can replace good hydration.

Water helps transport nutrients throughout the body, supports healthy circulation, assists digestion, and contributes to the appearance of healthy, glowing skin.

Even mild dehydration can leave you feeling tired, reduce concentration, and affect your mood.

Aim to sip water consistently throughout the morning rather than drinking a large amount all at once.

If you’re getting married somewhere warm or spending long periods outdoors, consider adding an electrolyte tablet or powder to one bottle of water to help replace important minerals lost through perspiration.

Small choices create big differences.

“Your wedding isn’t the day to eat less. It’s the day to nourish yourself more.”

Monica’s Perspective

“For more than thirty years, I’ve worked with performers, athletes, brides, and people preparing for some of the biggest moments of their lives. The people who feel their best are rarely the ones who restrict themselves—they’re the ones who nourish themselves. Energy, confidence, and presence begin long before you walk down the aisle. They begin with the simple choices you make when you first wake up.”

Move Your Body, Wake Your Mind

By the time your wedding morning arrives, your body has already been working hard for you.

While you slept, it repaired muscles, balanced hormones, restored brain function, and prepared every system for a brand-new day.

Now it’s your turn to wake it up—with kindness.

This isn’t the morning for an exhausting workout.

You don’t need to “burn off” yesterday’s dinner or squeeze in one last intense gym session before putting on your wedding dress.

Your goal today isn’t to lose weight.

It’s to create energy.

Gentle movement sends one of the most powerful messages you can give your body:

“We’re ready for today.”

Whether it’s ten minutes of Pilates, gentle yoga, stretching, a walk outside, or simply dancing around your room while getting ready, movement helps every system in your body work more efficiently.

Think of movement as turning on the lights throughout your body.

Your Body Was Designed to Move

Movement affects far more than your muscles.

As soon as you begin moving, your heart pumps faster, increasing circulation throughout the body.

That increased blood flow delivers oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, brain, skin, and organs.

More oxygen reaching the brain often means improved concentration, clearer thinking, and greater mental alertness.

It’s one of the reasons many people say,

“I think better after I exercise.”

Your skin benefits too.

Improved circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to skin cells, contributing to that healthy, natural glow every bride hopes for.

Movement literally helps you glow from the inside out.

The Happiness Chemicals

One of my favourite things about movement is that it changes your chemistry.

Within minutes of becoming active, your body begins releasing a remarkable combination of natural chemicals that influence how you feel.

Endorphins

Often called the body’s natural pain relievers, endorphins help reduce discomfort while creating feelings of wellbeing and optimism.

They’re one of the reasons you often feel happier after exercise than before.

Dopamine

Dopamine is linked to motivation, focus and reward.

It helps you feel accomplished and mentally energised.

Even a short walk can help stimulate dopamine pathways that improve your mood and sharpen your concentration.

Serotonin

Serotonin plays an important role in emotional wellbeing, relaxation and sleep quality.

Healthy serotonin activity is associated with feeling calmer, more emotionally balanced and more resilient during stressful situations.

Together, these chemicals don’t simply improve your workout.

They change the way you experience your day.

Movement Helps Calm Stress Too

Many people assume exercise simply gives you more energy.

It does much more than that.

Regular movement also helps your body become better at regulating stress.

Exercise temporarily increases your heart rate and places your body under controlled physical challenge.

Over time, this teaches your nervous system to recover more efficiently.

You become more adaptable.

More resilient.

More capable of returning to a calm state after stressful situations.

On your wedding morning, gentle movement helps release physical tension that often collects in the shoulders, jaw, neck and lower back.

The result?

Better posture.

Freer breathing.

Less stiffness.

More confidence.

You don’t just feel better.

You stand differently.

And confidence begins with posture.

Your Lymphatic System Loves Movement

Unlike your heart, which has its own pump, your lymphatic system relies almost entirely on movement to circulate lymph fluid throughout the body.

Think of it as your body’s natural housekeeping system.

It helps remove waste products, supports immune function, and assists with fluid balance.

Long periods of sitting, stress, poor sleep and inactivity can contribute to sluggish lymphatic circulation.

Gentle stretching, walking and deep breathing all help encourage healthy lymphatic flow.

This may leave you feeling lighter, less puffy and more refreshed.

One more reason to spend ten minutes moving before slipping into your wedding dress.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

What Happens When You Move?

Circulation increases
More oxygen and nutrients reach your brain, muscles and skin.

Endorphins are released
Helping improve mood and reduce discomfort.

Dopamine increases
Supporting motivation, focus and confidence.

Serotonin is supported
Helping you feel calmer and emotionally balanced.

Lymphatic flow improves
Helping reduce fluid retention and support your body’s natural detoxification processes.

Breathing becomes deeper
Increasing oxygen delivery and helping calm the nervous system.

MONICA RECOMMENDS

You don’t need a workout. You need a reset. Choose one:

✔ 10 minutes of Pilates

✔ Gentle yoga flow

✔ Morning stretch routine

✔ Walk outdoors in natural sunlight

✔ Dance to your favourite song while getting ready

✔ Five minutes of mindful breathing

The goal isn’t to sweat.

The goal is to feel alive.

“Movement isn’t about changing your body on your wedding day. It’s about changing the chemistry that shapes your energy, your confidence, and your joy.”

Monica’s Perspective

“After more than three decades of teaching movement, I’ve learned one simple truth: your body doesn’t need punishment—it needs partnership. The women who feel their strongest on their wedding day aren’t the ones who pushed themselves the hardest. They’re the ones who honoured their body, trusted it, and allowed movement to awaken rather than exhaust them. Give your body ten minutes of love, and it will carry you beautifully through the rest of the day.”

— Monica Tranter

Wellness Wisdom

Did you know that just 10 minutes of moderate movement can improve mood, increase alertness, and enhance mental focus? You don’t need an hour-long workout to experience meaningful benefits—sometimes a few mindful minutes are enough to change the course of your day.

Calm Your Mind Before You Calm Your Hair

Hair and makeup may help you look beautiful.

But your nervous system determines how you feel.

The morning of your wedding is filled with excitement.

Family begins arriving.

Music fills the room.

Hair and makeup artists move around you.

Your photographer starts capturing every little moment.

Your phone continues buzzing with messages.

Even though these are joyful moments, your brain processes them as stimulation.

Every conversation.

Every decision.

Every sound.

Every notification.

Without realising it, your nervous system can quickly shift into a heightened state of alertness.

This is completely normal.

Your body is preparing you for something important.

The challenge is making sure excitement doesn’t become overwhelm.

Your Nervous System Has Two Modes

One of the most remarkable systems in your body is your autonomic nervous system.

Think of it as your body’s automatic operating system.

It controls your breathing, heart rate, digestion, blood pressure and many of the unconscious functions that keep you alive.

It has two primary modes.

Fight or Flight

This is your body’s emergency response.

Your brain releases adrenaline and cortisol.

Your heart beats faster.

Your breathing becomes quicker.

Blood is directed toward your muscles.

Your pupils widen.

Your body prepares for action.

This response is incredibly useful when you’re facing danger.

The problem is…

Your brain doesn’t always distinguish between a charging tiger and walking down the aisle.

Both can create the same physical response.

Rest & Restore

This is the state we want to encourage on your wedding morning.

Your heart rate slows.

Your breathing deepens.

Digestion improves.

Your muscles soften.

Your thoughts become clearer.

Your body begins producing an environment where joy, connection and presence become much easier to experience.

This is where memories are made.

Why Breathing Changes Everything

Breathing is one of the few automatic functions we can consciously control.

That makes it incredibly powerful.

When you deliberately slow your breathing, you send a message to your brain that you are safe.

As your breath slows, your heart rate often follows.

Your muscles begin releasing tension.

Your shoulders naturally lower.

Even your facial muscles soften.

You haven’t changed your circumstances.

You’ve changed your physiology.

That’s why I believe breathing is one of the most underrated wellness tools we have.

It doesn’t cost anything.

You can do it anywhere.

And your body responds almost immediately.

The Hidden Effects of Stress

Stress doesn’t only affect your thoughts.

It affects your body.

You may notice:

Tight shoulders.

A clenched jaw.

Shallow breathing.

Cold hands.

Digestive discomfort.

Brain fog.

Difficulty concentrating.

These are simply your body’s way of saying,

“I’m preparing for something important.”

Instead of fighting those feelings…

Work with them.

Slow your breathing.

Relax your shoulders.

Smile.

Allow your body to understand that today isn’t something to survive.

It’s something to experience.

Presence Is the Greatest Luxury

We spend months preparing weddings.

Sometimes we forget to prepare ourselves.

Presence doesn’t happen accidentally.

It’s something we practise.

When you slow down enough to truly notice…

The music.

Your parents.

Your partner.

The flowers.

The laughter.

The quiet moments.

Those become the memories you carry for the rest of your life.

Being present is the greatest gift you can give yourself.

And the greatest gift you can give the person waiting for you at the end of the aisle.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Slow breathing may help:

-Lower heart rate

-Reduce feelings of stress

-Increase oxygen delivery

-Improve concentration

-Support emotional regulation

-Activate your body’s “rest and restore” response

MONICA RECOMMENDS

Create five minutes of stillness before your day begins. Choose one:

🤍-ASAMHA™ breathing or guided meditation

-Soft instrumental music

-Quiet reflection

-Journaling

-Gratitude practice

Even five minutes can completely change the emotional tone of your morning.

Wellness Wisdom

Did you know that your facial expression influences your brain?

Research suggests that smiling—even gently—may activate neural pathways associated with positive emotions. A genuine smile can also help soften facial tension and make you appear more relaxed in photographs. Sometimes the simplest expression becomes the most beautiful one.

“You don’t need a perfect wedding to create a perfect memory. You simply need to be present enough to experience it.”

Monica’s Perspective

“I’ve taught thousands of people over the years, and one lesson continues to stand out: calm is something we practise, not something we wait to feel. On your wedding day, there will always be small imperfections. A flower may fall, the weather may change, or the timeline may shift. None of those moments define your day. What defines it is your ability to pause, take one breath, and return to the reason you’re there—to celebrate love.”

— Monica Tranter

Beauty Begins Within

There comes a moment on every wedding morning when everything becomes still.

Your hair is finished.

Your makeup is complete.

Your dress is waiting.

The music softens.

The room quiets.

For just a few precious minutes, it’s only you.

This is your opportunity to pause.

Take a deep breath.

Look into the mirror.

Not to search for flaws.

Not to wonder if you should have lost another five pounds.

Not to compare yourself to photographs on social media.

Simply look at the woman standing before you.

Today, she is enough.

She is not defined by the dress she wears, the flowers she carries, or whether every detail unfolds perfectly.

She is defined by the love she is about to celebrate.

The people who love you most won’t remember whether every curl stayed perfectly in place.

They’ll remember your smile.

Your laughter.

The way your eyes lit up when you saw your partner waiting at the end of the aisle.

True beauty has never been about perfection.

It’s about presence.

The most radiant brides I’ve ever met weren’t necessarily the ones with flawless skin or perfectly symmetrical features.

They were the women who gave themselves permission to fully experience the day.

To laugh.

To cry.

To hug their parents a little longer.

To take one extra moment before walking down the aisle.

To simply breathe.

Those are the moments that become memories.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Did you know your emotions influence how you appear?

When we feel calm and joyful:

-Our facial muscles naturally soften.

-Genuine smiles become easier.

– Stress hormones begin to settle.

-Our posture becomes more relaxed and confident.

The result isn’t simply that you look more beautiful.

You feel more beautiful.

MONICA RECOMMENDS

Before you put on your dress…

✔ Look at yourself with kindness.

✔ Tell yourself one thing you genuinely love about yourself.

✔ Hug your parents.

✔ Laugh with your bridesmaids.

✔ Put your phone away for a few minutes.

✔ Take in the moment.

“The most beautiful thing you’ll wear today isn’t your dress. It’s the joy that shines through when you’re fully present.”

Monica’s Perspective

“I’ve been fortunate to work with thousands of women throughout my career. The ones I remember most weren’t the women who looked perfect. They were the women who felt present. They laughed freely, cried openly, hugged tightly and embraced every imperfect, beautiful moment. That’s the bride people remember.”
