This past summer I had the opportunity to witness one of the most romantic weddings ever, in my humble opinion, held in South Carolina! That of Felicia and Anthony, “The Walkers” as I’d like to call them. They are two incredible people who built their relationship based on faith and their love for God.
Felicia, a 31-year-old school counselor/health & wellness coach, who loves to inspire others, is from Rock Hill, S.C. Her husband Anthony, a 34-year-old financial advisor from Bronx, NY loves to travel. I recently sat down with the beautiful bride at her home in Brooklyn, NY to catch up and to get all of the details about her wedding.
The Facts:
Wedding Date: June 28, 2014
Wedding Location: Rock Hill, SC
Wedding Theme: Classic Black and White
Wedding Menu Favorite: Cupcake bar with assorted flavors
Bridesmaid Gifts: Professional makeup application and white, satin robes
Groomsmen Gift: Custom made velvet bow ties
How did you meet Anthony?
We met a little over 2 years ago at a social lounge in Brooklyn. We were both out with friends and managed to lock eyes on the dance floor. Anthony walked over to introduce himself. After moments of small talk and laughs, we danced the rest of the night away. The next morning I sent a mass Happy Easter text. He quickly called back and asked me on a post church brunch date. I of course answered yes, and the rest is history!
When did you two decide that you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together? How did he propose?
The proposal happened one year and 2 months after we initially met. Our first date was on April 8, so we always try to do something special on the 8th of each month. Well, it was June 8, but I knew something different was up because Anthony insisted that I get my nails done that same morning and was very adamant about choosing the perfect polish. After a morning in the salon, he and I went to see The Lion King on Broadway and concluded with a dinner at Aureole. We talked and laughed throughout dinner, but I noticed that Anthony kept excusing himself from the table. Just before dessert, Anthony gently grabbed my hand, got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. I answered yes, and the entire restaurant cheered! We capped off our night with a delicious dessert, compliments of the chef.
What wedding style did you choose?
We chose a classic theme with touches of modern decor. I wanted the decorations to express our personal styles. We both appreciate classic elegance but also enjoy the modern trends of today. A few items such as standard programs and traditional wedding cake were replaced with modern themed pieces like a program chalkboard and cupcake bar. However, classic essentials such as standard bouquets and floral centerpieces were incorporated into our theme.
Tell me about your most memorable moment on your wedding day.
We had so many amazing moments! It’s hard to choose just one. For me, it was when Anthony read the letter he had written prior to our wedding day. We agreed that we would exchange kind words during the ceremony before saying our actual vows. What Anthony said was absolutely beautiful. I could tell that every word came straight from his heart. At that moment, I was reassured that He was the man God created specifically for me.
Can you give our readers some advice for their upcoming wedding?
Our advice is to take a moment to yourselves to take it all in. The whole day seems to go by within seconds. Take a moment to sit, look out at everyone who came to support you, the beautiful decorations and your spouse. There’s so much to celebrate on your wedding day. Try not to get so caught up in the rush of everything that you miss the moment to enjoy it all with your new spouse.
Where did you guys decide to honeymoon? What was the best part of your honeymoon?
We both LOVE sun and sand, so we chose an island that would provide just that, the Dominican Republic. We chose to stay at Secrets Royal Resort in the beautiful city of Punta Cana. Secrets is an all-inclusive resort, so we indulged in delicious food and drinks throughout our stay. The best part of our honeymoon was definitely the excursion we took on a catamaran to a small, private island off the country’s coast.
