I’m showing my age here… but if you have ever watched the classic movie, There’s something about Mary…. I’m hoping you will understand what I mean by saying “There’s something about Mykonos.”
Mykonos is one of the top European destinations; it’s what St Bart’s is to the Caribbean. This cosmopolitan, beautiful island will hypnotise you with its glamour and allure. With pristine white Grecian houses accents of blue on the windows, doors and chimneys, narrow white washed cobbled streets, quaint restaurants and cafes, stunning white churches and of course, let’s not forget the prominent white windmills.
Mykonos has many magical moments but one of the most popular things to do is go to Little Venice and watch the enchanting sunset. Many say, “it’s the most spectacular sunset of the Greek Islands.” I’m inclined to agree!
Now, I’m a lady that normally loves staying at big luxurious hotels, however, in Mykonos the majority of the hotels are boutique hotels, apartments or villas. I had the pleasure of staying at the Myconian Ambassador hotel. This delightful hotel overlooks the famous Platis Yalos beach and is just a few minute’s walk to the sandy shore.
The Myconian Ambassador is an elegant boutique five star hotel. I stayed at the Honeymoon suite which comes with its own outdoor jacuzzi overlooking one of the most breathtaking views of the sparkling sea. White stylish rooms with hints of black and cream making the room feel light and airy. I loved the layout of the open-plan suite with a seamless flow between the bedroom and the bathroom. The focal part of the suite is the sunken modern bath and the separate rainforest shower, making the room feel….Ooh so very romantic – hence why it’s called the honeymoon suite! A perfect option for newlyweds and loved ones.
One of the highlights of my stay at the Myconian Ambassador was the Thalasso Therapy Spa that features the natural St Bart products from the Caribbean, and the Elemis products from Great Britain with such a diverse range of luxury spa treatments, lifestyle consultants and highly trained therapists. You are sure to find something to help you unwind, they have three different indoor seawater pools, a sauna and a steam room, and by the end of my session my skin felt smooth as a baby’s bottom!
Let’s talk champagne and breakfast. The Myconian Ambassador’s exquisite, Mediterranean breakfast was phenomenal, with such a wide variety of food from eggs, salmon, chicken, Greek salad, an assortment of delicious cakes, freshly squeezed orange juice and champagne on tap. Such a fantastic way to start the day!
Mykonos is a superb place to go for honeymooners, special occasions, or a fun-filled holiday. Whatever the reason, I’m pretty sure Mykonos will steal your heart too, and then you will be able to join me in saying “There’s something about Mykonos!”
