The Met Gala Offers An Extravagant Garden Of Fashion

The exhibition at the Costume Institute opens this Friday, 4 days after fashion’s biggest night, and is called The Sleeping Beauties Reawakiening Fashion. It will show 230 rare fashion items in various states of degradation caused by Father Time with one of the earliest pieces from 1330. This year, the Met Ball’s theme was The Garden Of Time. But not everyone followed the botanical dress code. Many attendees chose to forgo the flora theme and instead opted for sparkle, sequined, and glam gowns. But others did follow the theme with interesting interpretations like Jennifer Lopez’s Schiaparelli naked gown which mimicked creeping vines. Fashion’s biggest night did not disappoint with celebs, influencers, and attendees bringing their A-game to the event.

One of the outliers was Da’Vine Joy Randolf who wore a gown designed by Zac Posen, the current creative director of The Gap. The ball gown was made entirely of denim a reflection of the brand’s roots. As usual, gargantuan trains and gowns were the preference of many with guests requiring a crew of ladies in waiting to assist with walking or splaying out the gown for the paparazzi. The winner of the biggest dress competition was one worn by Cardi B. It was designed by Sensen Lii for the brand Windowsen and required 8 men to assist with the billowing gown.

The co-chairs along with Anna Wintour were Zendaya—who made 2 red carpet changes, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth. Lopez wore a made-to-order Schiaparelli sculpted naked gown with sparkles that mimicked plant roots. But the theme’s diversion didn’t detract from the fabulous fashion moments. The fashion was next-level and fun to watch as a spectator of which many lined 5th Ave. There seems to be no bigger global fashion event than the Met Ball.
