The Colorful Life of Garrow Kedigian

The Carlyle Hotel for me has been one of New York’s symbols of Glamour.  I first stepped foot in there when I was invited by the late Eartha Kitt and Kitt Shapiro. A dear friend and family have an exquisite apartment in this iconic address. I feel there is an authentic connection that endears me to The Carlyle. This past holiday season I had the pleasure of meeting Garrow Kedigian—a maestro of design whose warm smile harmonized with the vibrant hues of his attire. In a world often defined by cold structures, Garrow exuded a contagious joy and texture, reflecting his ability to infuse life into every client’s home.

Born and raised in Montreal, Garrow’s journey through McGill University’s Architecture program laid the foundation for his illustrious career. After honing his skills in Boston under the tutelage of interior designer William Hodgins, Garrow took a bold leap to conquer the design realm of the “Big Apple” in 2000. Establishing his own design firm in 2001, he became a luminary in the industry.

Garrow’s classically trained architectural background serves as the cornerstone of his design philosophy, as he asserts, “The architecture sets the tone and tells you what you need to do with a space.” This approach has manifested in his recent project, the Park Avenue residence, formerly owned by Fred Astaire, featured in House Beautiful Magazine. Garrow seamlessly blended classic elegance with a contemporary undertone, resurrecting the prewar apartment to its former glory.

His design prowess extends across diverse projects, from a 20,000 square foot barn-turn-residence in Greenwich to Manhattan apartments, Palm Beach residences, and corporate headquarters in New York. The transformative touch exhibited in the 2009 Kips Bay Designer showhouse, where he turned the smallest room into a jewel-box space using simple techniques, showcased Garrow’s ability to create drama, focus, and style.

As the owner and principal of Garrow Kedigian – Interior Design, he shared insights into his creative journey, rooted in a childhood passion for interiors. Garrow’s exquisite use of colors in homes reflects his belief that color is the ultimate expression of personality, encouraging clients to embrace their preferences.

Addressing priorities for couples buying a home, Garrow advises pacing oneself, balancing size, budget, and personalization. His role as a mediator and organizer in the design process ensures that each client’s taste finds a place in their space.

Garrow’s love for estate sales and antique shopping enriches his designs, creating layered and timeless interiors.
