Why Recovery Is the Most Overlooked Part of Your Bridal Wellness Journey
In today’s world, we’re constantly told to do more.
Work harder.
Exercise longer.
Push further.
Stay busy.
As brides, we often carry this same mindset into preparing for our wedding day.
More workouts.
More skincare.
More appointments.
More planning.
More pressure.
But after more than thirty years helping people improve their health through movement, recovery, and wellness, I’ve discovered something many people never consider.
The body doesn’t transform while we’re constantly asking more of it.
It transforms while it recovers.
The healthiest muscles don’t become stronger during exercise.
They become stronger while they repair.
The mind doesn’t become clearer while it’s overwhelmed.
It becomes clearer when we create space for stillness.
Even our skin, hormones, immune system and metabolism perform some of their most important work while we sleep.
Recovery isn’t being lazy.
Recovery is where healing begins.
And perhaps it’s the most overlooked wellness practice of all.
Recovery Is Where the Magic Happens

Did you Know?
While you sleep your body is:
- Processing memories
- Repairing muscles
- Supporting your immune system
- Renewing skin cells
- Balancing hormones
- Restoring energy
Every single night your body begins working for you.
While you’re sleeping your brain sorts through thousands of memories from the day.
Your muscles repair microscopic tears created during movement.
Your immune system strengthens itself.
Hormones rebalance.
Your nervous system begins calming after another busy day.
Your skin renews itself.
Your heart slows.
Your breathing deepens.
The body is remarkably intelligent.
It simply needs the opportunity to do its job.
Unfortunately, modern life rarely gives it that opportunity.
Late-night scrolling.
Wedding planning.
Emails.
Social media.
Work deadlines.
Family commitments.
Financial pressures.
It’s no wonder so many brides arrive at one of the happiest days of their lives feeling completely exhausted.
Sometimes the greatest thing you can do for your wedding isn’t another workout.
It’s getting another hour of sleep.

Most people have heard the word cortisol, but very few understand what it actually does.
Cortisol is often called the body’s primary stress hormone.
Produced by the adrenal glands, its job is to help keep us alive.
When your brain senses stress—whether that’s running late, worrying about wedding details, scrolling through social media, or facing an emotional conversation—it signals your body to release cortisol.
For short periods, cortisol is incredibly helpful.
It increases alertness.
Raises energy.
Sharpens focus.
Helps us respond to challenges.
The problem isn’t cortisol itself.
The problem is when the body never has the opportunity to switch it off.
When stress becomes constant, cortisol may remain elevated longer than it should.
Over time this can contribute to:
• Poor sleep
• Brain fog
• Water retention
• Digestive discomfort
• Sugar cravings
• Increased inflammation
• Slower muscle recovery
• Belly fat storage
This is one reason so many brides tell me,
“I’m eating well, exercising, and doing everything right—but I still don’t feel like myself.”
Sometimes your body isn’t asking you to work harder.
It’s asking you to slow down and recover better.
Brain Fog
“Sometimes your brain doesn’t need more coffee…
It needs more calm.”
Planning a wedding is exciting.
But it’s also mentally demanding.
Hundreds of decisions.
Endless emails.
Family opinions.
Guest lists.
Budgets.
Timelines.
Travel.
Your brain is processing far more information than normal.
Combine this with poor sleep and elevated stress, and many people experience what we call brain fog.
You may notice:
• Difficulty concentrating
• Forgetfulness
• Feeling mentally “flat”
• Low motivation
• Emotional exhaustion
• Feeling overwhelmed by simple decisions
This isn’t a sign of weakness.
It’s often your nervous system asking for a reset.
One of the most powerful gifts you can give your brain is ten uninterrupted minutes of stillness each day.
No phone.
No notifications.
Just breathing.
The mind cannot recover if it never has permission to rest.
Recovery Is More Then Sleep

Recovery doesn’t simply mean sleeping longer.
Recovery is any activity that allows your body to restore itself.
Some of my favourite recovery practices include:
🔴 Red Light Therapy – Many people use red light therapy to support circulation, cellular energy, and recovery as part of their wellness routine.
❄️ Cold Plunge Therapy – Cold exposure may help support resilience, mental clarity, and post-exercise recovery while encouraging a healthy response to stress.
🧘 Meditation & ASAMHA™ Breathwork – Just a few intentional minutes can help quiet the mind and calm the nervous system.
🎵 Sound Healing – Gentle music, sound bowls, or calming frequencies can create an environment that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.
🌿 Time in Nature – Fresh air, sunlight, and green spaces can be restorative for both body and mind.
Recovery isn’t about doing nothing.
It’s about choosing activities that help your body come back into balance.
Movement Comes in Many Forms

Movement should energize you—not exhaust you.
One of the biggest misconceptions in wellness is that every workout has to be long and intense.
Sometimes the body simply needs to move.
A brisk 10–15 minute walk.
A short Pilates session.
Gentle stretching.
A yoga flow.
A quick mobility routine.
These small bursts of movement increase circulation, wake up the muscles, stimulate the metabolism, and help the body transition out of a stressed state.
Remember, movement is a celebration of what your body can do—not a punishment for what you ate yesterday.
Gentle Morning Reset
The way we begin the morning often sets the tone for the entire day.
One of my favourite rituals is starting with warm water followed by a fresh lemon, ginger, and turmeric shot.
Many people also enjoy: Lemon, Fresh ginger, Turmeric, Green tea or Cinnamon
These simple additions can support hydration, digestion, and a mindful start to the day.
Some people also choose activated charcoal occasionally for digestive discomfort or excess gas. Because it can interact with medications and isn’t suitable for everyone, it’s best used under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Wellness isn’t about finding one miracle solution.
It’s about creating small daily rituals that support your body consistently.

Monica’s Wellness Rituals
Ritual #1 – Create Your Sleep Sanctuary
An hour before bed, dim the lights and put away your phone, tablet, and computer. Create a calm environment by using a heated eye mask or eye massager with gentle vibration, calming music, or a guided meditation. Let your body know the day is complete and it’s time to restore.
Ritual #2 – Release the Day
Stress is often stored in the body. Starting with your feet, gently tense each muscle group for five seconds, then completely release it. Slowly work your way to your calves, thighs, abdomen, shoulders, arms, hands, jaw, and face. Repeat five times while taking slow ASAMHA™ breaths and feel the tension melt away.
Ritual #3 – Prepare for Deep Sleep
Hydrate well throughout the day, then reduce large drinks about two hours before bedtime to help minimise waking during the night. Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet, avoid heavy meals and caffeine late in the evening, and aim to go to bed at a consistent time. Small evening habits often create the deepest, most restorative sleep.
Remember: The quality of your tomorrow begins with the rituals you choose tonight.”
Let’s Finish with an ASAMHA™ Moment
Before you continue with your day, take one moment just for you.
Close your eyes.

Relax your shoulders.
Place both hands gently over your belly.
Remind yourself:
Everything is exactly as it should be.
Now breathe with me.
A
Inhale deeply and Activate.
Feel your diaphragm expand.
Awaken your senses.
Invite fresh energy into your body.
SA
Exhale and Scoop & Ascend.
Draw your belly gently back toward your spine.
Lift through your waistline.
Lengthen your posture.
Feel yourself becoming lighter from within.
M
Inhale and Maintain.
Hold the breath softly.
Maintain the lift.
Maintain your awareness.
Maintain the connection between your body, your mind, and your spirit.
HA
Exhale and Harmony & Release.
Release tension.
Release comparison.
Release the pressure to be perfect.
Choose acceptance.
Choose gratitude.
Choose to honour the incredible person you already are.
Repeat this breath 5–8 times.
Then open your eyes.
Stand a little taller.
Smile a little brighter.
And carry that feeling into the rest of your day or night.
One Breath. One Lift. One Shift.
