I have to be honest; over the years, I have watched and read many different stories about Bangkok and it left me unsure whether I would LOVE IT or HATE IT! So finally, I decided it was time to take the plunge and make my own decision. Well I am HAPPY to say “I LOVED IT!!!”
I stayed at the Iconic Shangri La hotel situated in the perfect location, making it very easy to explore the old and the new parts of Bangkok. I treated myself to the Krungthrep Deluxe Balcony room that has breath-taking views of the Chao Phraya riverside. The Krungthrep rooms have separate entrance, private pool, and complimentary breakfast in the Riverside and in the evening fabulous cocktail hour. The exclusivity and privacy is delightful and ideal for honeymooners, loved ones and friends.
The Shangri La hotel has great access to the Space-age skytrain, as well as their own shuttle boat that can take you to the nearest shopping complex or night markets. Now, if endless shopping is not for you, why not treat yourself to the award winning CHI Spa? Certainly something I needed after a hectic few days of sightseeing around some of Bangkok’s most famous attractions like: the perfectly maintained Grand Palace, a brilliant example of the old that still looks pristine and eye-catching. The Grand Palace is host to a collection of beautiful Thai buildings and temples, it’s hard to believe this was completed way back in 1882. You will be mesmerised by the many temples – one of my personal favourite’s sites is – the 46 metres long gold plated Reclining Buddha – an absolute must see!!!
The Thonburi Klongs (canals) tour will take you back in time where you will be given a glimpse into how people lived in the past and how some still live today. The tour goes down the Chao Phraya River. I was captivated by the Thai people, and felt incredible lucky to be given a personal glimpse into the lives of the citizens, a true humbling experience!
Bangkok is one of the most exhilarating, vibrant, Yin-Yang cities that I have ever visited, from the lush hotels, mouth-watering food, floating markets, tuk-tuks, skyscrapers, shopping malls and an abundance of lively entertainment. Any holiday vacation in Thailand should always include a stopover to the delicious city of Bangkok as an appetiser it has something for everyone.
