A Magical Connection built from Friendship and Love

The Facts: We are college sweethearts that met on the campus of Claflin University. Our love withstood four years of college and we could not imagine our lives without each other. We’ve been married for a little over a year and look forward to many years together.

Wedding Date: We got married on January 11, 2018, on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. It was a very intimate, private ceremony 15 days after our engagement. The moment was very special and we felt so blessed to be able to exchange vows in such a beautiful place.

Reception Date: Since we had a private wedding ceremony without any friends or family we decided to host a reception to celebrate our nuptials during the holidays while we visited home. Our grand reception took place, December 16, 2018

Reception Location: Rock Hill, South Carolina

Wedding Theme: Elegant Black and Gold with pops of Red

Wedding Menu Favorite: Chicken Salad Crostini with Cotton Candy Grapes

Bridesmaid Gifts: Monogrammed Silk Robes with matching shoes to get ready for the special day as well as J.Crew earrings to wear for the day of the reception.

Groomsmen Gift: Monogrammed Duffle Bags

How did you meet RaShodd? I met RaShodd at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He apparently had been eyeing me for a while before we actually had our first conversation.

When did you two decide that you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together? How did he propose?

Jordan’s answer: I’ve been infatuated with RaShodd since the beginning honestly and he basically had me at movie night and our first date. He invited me over to watch movies and invited a couple of mutual friends over so I would feel comfortable around him. Right before our first date on November 22nd, 2013 he asked me to be his girlfriend and he’s been stuck with me ever since. I knew I could spend the rest of my life with you when I felt the feelings I had when we faced problems in our relationship from the very beginning until now. I could never see myself without him. It never was an option in my mind. When I realized we could get through anything I knew he was MY husband.

RaShodd’s answer: When I stood on her mother’s steps and told her I loved her. I had been contemplating it the entire day. Butterflies in my stomach up until that very moment, but as soon as I said those words the butterflies went away. That’s when I knew.

RaShodd is in the US Army and currently stationed at Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu, Hawaii! Jordan went to visit him for the holiday break and to celebrate her birthday. RaShodd popped the question with the picturesque scenery of Ko’Olina Lagoon in the background to make the special day memorable, thoughtful, and breathtaking.

Tell me about the most memorable moment on your wedding day.

The most memorable part of the day was the powerful prayer that Ministers Eddie and Adrienne Young delivered as they blessed our union in front of our friends and family. They really brought Jesus into the room and I felt like it really solidified our marriage even more so because there was just so much love in the room. I just felt really blessed at that moment and thankful to be spending the rest of my life with RaShodd.

Honorable mention: Our niece, Khilee who was our flower girl said, “Look, Mommy, Auntie Jordan is a princess!” after everyone was all dolled up. It literally melted my heart. I’ll cherish that memory forever and its something I will definitely tell her when she grows up.

Can you give our readers some advice for their upcoming wedding?

Breathe. Ladies, it is your day! Try not to get frustrated if your significant other doesn’t want to participate in planning for the big day. It’s completely normal and he frankly does not care what color the napkins are and how they will be folded. Take some time to see what things he does care about and try to meet him halfway with those decisions. This is only one day out of your long lives together. Make it memorable but don’t let it drive a wedge between you or anyone else because after those vendors are gone, the venue is cleaned, and you take off that gorgeous dress; you are someone’s wife, daughter, sister, and best friend. Also, don’t let anyone else impose their opinions on how they think the day should be. Tell them to pipe down and wait their turn, nicely of course.

Where did you guys decide to honeymoon? What was the best part of your honeymoon? We currently live in the #1 honeymoon destination for newlywed couples. Lucky us. So we skipped out on our honeymoon and bought a condo here in Hawaii.
