NYFW Offers Everything You Need for Wedding and Honeymoon Dressing

The successful return of New York Fashion Week revved up the fashion machine after many months of standing idle due to the pandemic. Right now the fashion troops have moved to London for more catwalk creativity followed by Milan and Paris which are always a source of inspiration especially for brides to be. The looks on the spring runway, will be available in February but there are many designers offering made-to-measure personalized service and will hold your hand through every step of the process. Dennis Basso is one offering that service to his clients.

Couples are truly turning up the dial on their weddings planning bigger parties which then increases the style quotient several notches. Guests may also feel a renewed appreciation for dressing up after such a dearth of events and sitting home in sweat pants and slippers. This return to gussying-up was seen at the runway shows along with more classic investment looks. But fear not traditionalists, October will ring in the bridal shows with all the big bridal players. Here we take a look at four distinctive fashion designers who showed collections at NYFW. There is plethora of dressing ideas for weddings, honeymoons, and all the events surrounding the big day.

Reem Acra

It may surprise some that the queen of bridal, Reem Acra creates the dreamiest of evening gowns. Her lavishly embellished dresses have been worn on the red carpet by countless starlets. The Lebanese veteran designer presented her collection during fashion week and will also present exclusive bridal looks in October. Reem’s gowns are consistently delicate and beautiful using intricate embroidery and opulent fabrics. For this collection she was inspired by New York’s Deco skyscrapers which is evident in the beading on her gowns.

Carlton Jones

Fashion designer Carlton Jones believes “Resort isn’t a destination, it’s a feeling”. That ethos is the central vibe of his easy, breezy collection—the perfect complement for honeymoon dressing and beyond. He started his eponymous label while also working as a stylist for private clients and celebrities like Erykah Badu and Lenny Kravitz, Mary J. Blige, and Michelle Obama for two decades.

His palette is a mix of neutrals and soft blues and greens in fluid fabrications that saunter while walking. It is easy to imagine his clothing on a beach at a glamorous resort. Harem pants, cold shoulder tops with drapy sleeves are some of the details that Jones employs to make the wearer have that relaxed nonchalant cool. He uses color blocking as a design motif that puts an exclamation point on the silhouettes. Jones doesn’t reinvent the wheel but his designs have a luxe simplicity that becomes the go-to in your closet season after season. The kind of look that you keep reaching for because it allows you to stand out. These are investment pieces for people who love travel—and who doesn’t love a turquoise-drenched beach?

His show was part of the Global Fashion Collective which featured four designers who are relatively new on the fashion calendar.

Kevan Hall

LA designer Kevan Hall calls this collection “Brushstrokes” and sites one of his influences as the French contemporary painter, Christian Bernard. His show started with several trompe l’oeil dresses and suits followed by Laura Ashley florals and pink evening suit with brushstrokes painted on silky fabric. Kevan really excels in evening wear and to that end he created dresses and evening skirts using feathers, sequins and lace to create stunning looks for special occasions.

Dennis Basso

Dennis Basso chose to show his opulent evening gowns at the Greek eatery, Limani on a crisp September afternoon. He named this collection, Mediterranean Odyssey based on the enchanting seaside towns and villages he has visited over the years—Mikonos, Monte Carlo, San Tropez, Sardinia, and Tangier to name a few of his jaunts. He describes his woman as, ” perfectly coiffed and elegantly dressed on moonlit evenings, women of all ages dancing, chatting and flirting in the whisper of a breeze off the water.” This certainly paints the picture of a glamourous life, one which many of his clients experience and aspire to.

Basso used fur shrugs, and jackets to accent many of his dresses since he began his fashion journey as a furrier. He touts “Made In New York” as his tag line and one he is undoubtably proud of. The presentation was well attended by socialites, friends and journalists and it’s easy to see why he is so beloved as New York’s darling.
