For example, if you have a bubbly personality, you might gravitate toward a frothy tulle dress. Meanwhile, more subdued women may opt for a dress with few embellishments. Only you know what a dress feels like when you put it on and you’ll know your dress when you meet it. Keep in mind that one of the most important elements of a good fit is meticulous alterations. It’s a rare dress that’s a perfect fit off the rack.
All that said, some guidelines can help find the best dress for your body type. Below are some basic rules to find the best bridal silhouette to match your body type. Keep them in mind as you start your first bridal dress appointment and embark on your dress journey.
Ball Gowns. This type of dress is good for almost any silhouette. The big skirt hides hips, stomach, and leg issues and the fitted bodice accentuates the waist and bust. It’s the classic Cinderella look and will work for everyone including the most curvaceous shapes.
A-Line. Any dress that makes the shape of an A or a triangular shape is considered an A-line. That means the top is narrow and then the fabric flows wider from there. It is best for body types that are smaller on top and wider at the hips. It’s not ideal for bigger busts with slimmer hips. But this silhouette does tend to work on most body types.
Trumpet, Column Dress. This one shows off your curves and fits your body throughout the dress. The fabric is usually structured and holds you in and has ruffles at the hem. With proper undergarments and a good fit, anyone can wear these styles and look va-voom!

Tea Length. Got great legs and want to feel like you’re at a cocktail party instead of a gala event? Then this mid-length dress is for you. Tea length usually hits the mid-calf on your legs and has a less formal effect. Your shoes become a feature with this silhouette.
Strapless. This is great for brides who want to show off toned shoulders, arms, and decollate. Strapless dresses are very popular and universally flattering. You may want to add a pearl necklace or more blingy jewelry to it, but simplicity also makes a gorgeous statement.
V-Neck. This neckline is very flattering for bigger busted brides and will show off just the right amount of cleavage.
Sweetheart neck. Gives an old-fashioned 40’s vibe to the dress. It works great to camouflage a small chest.
