Living in New York, we have the luxury of choosing from countless destinations around the world. With major international airports just minutes away, it’s easy to dream about Paris, Milan, Dubai, or the Caribbean. Yet sometimes, because of those endless options, we overlook some of America’s most beautiful treasures. That is why my second visit to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, was so rewarding.
Many travelers might question returning to the same destination twice when there is so much of the world left to discover. For me, experiencing Lake Geneva in a different season revealed a deeper appreciation for this charming lakeside community and confirmed why so many families return year after year.
My home during this visit was The Geneva Inn, a boutique waterfront retreat perched directly on the shores of Geneva Lake. With panoramic lake views, attentive service, and award-winning cuisine, the inn immediately creates a sense of calm. Mornings began with peaceful views of the water, while evenings offered spectacular sunsets that reminded me why slowing down is sometimes the greatest luxury of all.

Over four days, I discovered why Lake Geneva has become one of the Midwest’s most beloved destinations. From strolling the famous 21-mile Shore Path lined with historic Gilded Age estates to exploring the walkable downtown filled with boutiques, galleries, cafés, and specialty shops, every experience reflected the warmth and hospitality of the region.
One of the highlights was touring the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, one of my favorite properties. Situated on more than 1,300 acres, the resort offers luxury accommodations, championship golf, wellness experiences, and exceptional event spaces. While golf wasn’t originally the reason for my previous visit, spending time on the resort’s beautiful Highlands Course gave me a newfound appreciation for the sport. Inspired by traditional Scottish links courses, the rolling fairways and breathtaking scenery made the experience both relaxing and exhilarating. I left already planning a return trip with friends for a weekend focused on golf, spa treatments, wellness activities, and great food. Grand Geneva perfectly demonstrates how recreation and self-care can coexist in one unforgettable destination.

The itinerary continued with a tour of the iconic Riviera Ballroom, one of the area’s most sought-after waterfront wedding venues, followed by a private cruise aboard Lake Geneva Cruise Line which can be booked for private charter with you and your guests. Seeing the magnificent lakeside mansions from the water offered a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history. Lunch at Pier 290 in nearby Williams Bay showcased the area’s exceptional culinary scene and stunning waterfront dining.

Other memorable experiences included visiting the historic Yerkes Observatory for all you lovers of science and history, followed by a tour to The Abbey Resort & Avani Spa, exploring Lake Lawn Resort, and enjoying dinner at its signature restaurant, 1878 on the Lake. Our final day introduced us to several outstanding accommodations, including Harbor Shores, Bella Vista Suites, The Cove, and the historic Maxwell Mansion. Family-friendly attractions such as Area 262 and the Tristan Crist Magic Theatre highlighted the destination’s appeal for travelers of all ages. Lunch at Hawk’s View Golf Club further reinforced Lake Geneva’s reputation as an exceptional wedding destination, with panoramic views and elegant event spaces perfect for celebrations.

Whether you’re looking for a family vacation, a romantic escape, a wellness retreat, or a destination wedding venue, Lake Geneva offers something special. The combination of breathtaking natural beauty, welcoming locals, exceptional dining, luxury accommodations, outdoor recreation, and small-town charm creates an experience that feels both authentic and unforgettable.

For international travelers looking to discover another side of America beyond the major cities, and for couples searching for a wedding destination closer to home, Lake Geneva deserves a place on your list. As for me, this second visit won’t be my last. I can already see Lake Geneva becoming a cherished tradition—one that I look forward to sharing with family and friends for years to come.
