That’s exactly what I found at Royal Park Hotel, tucked along the banks of Paint Creek in downtown Rochester, Michigan. And from the moment I arrived, I knew this wasn’t just a hotel stay. It was an experience I’d be thinking about long after I flew
home.
Royal Park Hotel recently underwent a full property-wide transformation, and the result feels like an English manor house reimagined for modern luxury. Light-filled interiors, lush botanical touches, and gathering spaces that invite you to slow down it’s romantic without trying too hard, elegant without feeling stiff. For brides dreaming of a wedding weekend, an anniversary escape, or even a multigenerational family reunion, this property quietly checks every box.
From the second I checked in, the hospitality set the tone. General Manager Autumn Griffith and Sales Director Andrew Salem personally welcomed our group with a property tour, walking us through the newly renovated spaces and sharing the story behind the redesign. That evening, we gathered for dinner at PARK 600, where Executive Chef Eric Avila’s European-inspired menu paired beautifully with craft cocktails an incredible first taste of what the rest of the stay would hold.
One of my absolute favorite moments was touring the Ford Piquette Plant Museum in Detroit, one of the oldest surviving automotive plants in the world. Walking through that history taught me so much about how an entire industry was built — and it reminded me of something I carry into my own work as an entrepreneur: no one builds something remarkable alone. Every success has a team behind it, a village of people who believed in the vision before the world could see it.
That same spirit of collaboration ran through the whole trip. We explored downtown Detroit and the historic Corktown neighborhood, wandered the boutiques of downtown Rochester, and sat down to an unforgettable Afternoon Tea in the Gallery, complete with delicate sandwiches, house-made pastries, and premium loose-leaf teas served on tiered stands a moment I can already picture as a bridal shower or bridesmaids’ outing.
The Conservatory dinner is where I truly fell in love with this property. Before the meal, we were treated to a mixology class led by an instructor I can only ever think of as “6’8” my nickname for Tim, whose towering height matched his even bigger personality behind the bar. He walked us through crafting custom cocktails with fresh herbs and the signature flavors of summer, and the whole experience had our group laughing as much as we were sipping. Hand-assembled onsite after being constructed in Brussels, the light-filled glass Conservatory overlooks the hotel’s landscaped grounds and is, without question, one of the most romantic spaces I’ve ever dined in. I can only imagine how breathtaking it would be dressed for a wedding.
For couples who love the outdoors, Royal Park Hotel sits along more than 50 miles of trails, with bikes available from the hotel’s own fleet to ride the scenic Paint Creek Trail a peaceful, wooded ride I’m already planning to take next time. We ended one evening with VIP access to the hotel’s Summer Vertical Concert Series, seated right at the fire pit along the creek with live music filling the summer air.
