On September 8, 2026, the China Institute in America held its Centennial Gala, celebrating 100 years of fostering greater understanding between Chinese and American cultures. Fashion took center stage at the lavish, beautifully produced event, held in the Grand Ballroom of New York’s Pierre Hotel.
The evening honored the artistry and influence of acclaimed Chinese and Chinese American fashion designers, including Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Vivienne Tam , Guo Pei, Grace Chen, Laurence Xu, Wang Feng and more. Each presented an individual runway show, some creating an excustive collection for the event. Additional awards recognized fashion influencer Jessica Wang, stylist, Lucia Lu, and CFDA founder, Fern Mallis].
Several designers donated custom haute couture gowns and one-of-a-kind looks for a special auction. Proceeds benefited the association’s mission to deepen the public’s understanding of China’s dynamic culture through classes, events, and programs spanning arts and culture, cuisine, business, and education.
Yue-Sai Kan chaired the gala in a striking scarlet taffeta gown. Often called “the most famous woman in China,” Kan has built a remarkably diverse career as an Emmy Award–winning television host, author and entrepreneur—all while remaining a devoted champion of fashion.
The star-studded affair welcomed an impressive group of guests, including Miss USA, CFDA founder Fern Mallis.
