Where & How Did You Meet?

We met twice, actually. The first time we met was in passing at a work lunch event. One year and one month later, we met again on a night out with friends. Jalin was celebrating her sorority sister, Bre’onna Richardson’s, 21st birthday at a local restaurant. Jovan approached Jalin with quiet confidence and said, “Hi! I know you!” Jalin quickly rebuffed him with, “No, you don’t.” But she quickly warmed when Jovan calmly responded, “Yes, I do.” Jovan then began to tell her all the things he remembered about her, including what university she had graduated from, the program she had participated in at GM, her hometown, and more. It was his kind demeanor and impressive memory that lit the spark, leading them to talk the entire night and to Jovan asking Jalin out on a date the following weekend.

Where Did You Get Married & Why Did You Pick That Location?

We got married at Solar da Levada in Portugal. We love Portugal. It is one of our favorite vacation destinations, and we wanted to share that love with our friends and family. Once we saw our venue (thanks to TikTok), we knew that it was the perfect place to have our wedding.

What Was The Most Important Thing To Each Of You When Planning Your Wedding?

When planning our wedding, we felt that making sure we were our authentic selves and ensuring our guests had a white-glove experience were the most important things to us. Since we were asking our guests to travel such a long way, we wanted to make sure we anticipated their needs and curated an experience that would create lasting memories.

What Does Family Mean To You?

Family is a collection of people that hold space for you to be yourself. They are your community. They check in on you and allow you to become the best version of yourself. Family is more than just the people you are connected to by blood. Family is the group of people who are there to cheer you on and hold you accountable throughout this journey of life.

What Tips Would You Give To A Couple Planning Their Wedding?

Have fun! Do not stress. As long as you are married at the end of the ceremony, it was a successful wedding. Do not let the small things get in the way of you enjoying the planning process and the wedding day.
