Tadashi Shoji, known for “owning the Red Carpet”, a man whose tenure in Women’s eveningwear and bridal has made him an expert at understanding women. His experience in refining his fashions to the various needs of women is constant and unbelievably effective. Constant trends, fluctuation in needs and expansion of size offering is an undertaking many designers struggle with, is where he has researched, gives careful attention to and has long conquered. He humbly prides himself on covering inclusive sizes for all women across the globe long before the term “inclusive” started trending. This is due to his dedication in perfecting the interior construction of his dresses that result in a superb signature fit. Tadashi Shoji gowns are created to offer the “comfort of a tee” while displaying stunning elegance.
His Fall/Winter 2020 runway show cultivates a unique modern look by honoring tradition influence while focusing on a new perspective of beauty. Each gown depicts the extravagance of a royal dynasty. Details emphasize sculptured and voluminous shapes like palace statues. Sequins and gowns ornamented with faux furs prove glamorous and dramatic. Regal textiles such as damasks, jacquards and brocades use ornate and filigree motifs finished in rich metallic jewel tones worthy of its “Mongolian” inspiration.
We also caught up with the fantastic beauty team backstage. Honest Beauty and Orcé teams were led by makeup artist Daniel Martin. Hair led by hair stylist Kevin Ryan for R Session Pro Tools. Skin care prep by Tatcha while nail lacquer and design were brought by Lux K on behalf of Pear Nova. Each uniquely represented the Mongolian Empire theme that was cohesive and complimentary to the gowns.
Gracious with his time and his wisdom, right before his runway preview, Mr. Shoji shared his insight and some amusing dating advice for women who want to experience his dresses in a video below with yours truly, captured by Myrdith Leon-McCormack of MLM Presents.

A Brooklyn native raised in a home where my parents fostered 3 practical ideas: Christian faith transforms, education empowers and family inspires. These practices developed core principles in me that would launch me to pursue my passion in Fashion design. Within 20 years of brand building, innovative product design, global travel, I have established a service of excellence that affords me a stellar professional reputation. Also along this journey, I made a unique discovery about my abilities and the effect it had on those in my professional community. Transforming the way you think by what you wear was and is my creative initiative that would help everyone view the world through a lens that honors all people as God’s perfection; fearfully and beautifully made. As now a wife, mother, designer, and writer I am more passionate about sharing the beauty of love and being intentional about creating moments that gift happiness.
