The Rockaway Hotel Spa of the Rockaway Peninsula is New York’s secret escape. From the entrance, you begin a journey into an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Rockaway Hotel is beautiful; the moment you walk in, you’re encapsulated in this luxurious bohemian boutique hotel. The mood transforms you from the waiting area with the white lounging sofa, the scent of sage and lavender, the new-age wellness music, and dimmed lighting. Although small, the locker room makes impressive use of space and provides you with a complimentary robe and a pair of shoes. The staff, which gives this location its flare, ensures that you’re well taken care of, offering beverages and preparing you for your treatment.
The spa offers a variety of treatments such as facials, body treatments, massages targeting different issues of the body, and so much more. With your treatment comes the use of additional amenities such as the infrared sauna, pool heated during the winter, and the steam sauna on the pool deck. Prices range from $155 to $260 with crafted custom packages. The staff must be carefully handpicked because these women’s healing hands and professionalism are incredible. They quickly attune themselves to your intended needs, whether it be relaxation, soothing sore muscles, or rejuvenating the skin. It must be reiterated that the entire time you’re in the spa, you feel as though you’re elsewhere – a transformative oasis with healing offerings for mind and body.
I experienced the full body massage focusing on relaxation and releasing tension in my superficial muscles. However, to ensure a personalized treatment, I was asked about areas I’d like to focus on – which like most of us, are my neck and shoulders. Once the treatment started, I quickly melted into the table and lost all sense of time. When my spa tech reached my neck and shoulders, I felt her work on the area more intently while communicating what she discerned. I have an ongoing neck injury, and as if she was at previous doctor’s appointments, she knew the symptoms I’d been dealing with for years. Her attention to detail and awareness enabled a moment of trust and relief. My treatment ended with a relaxing time at the sauna. As a result of my treatment, The Rockaway Hotel Spa has officially become a part of my monthly recovery process.
Overall, this spa was delightful. Not only is it stimulating all of your senses to assist in relaxation, but effective in intention for you to leave feeling like you’ve had a significant reset.
