Experience Fall Along the Delaware at New Jersey’s Woolverton Inn

Visiting any town along the Delaware River always invites some sense of adventure. A natural border separating New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the Delaware holds plenty of wondrous secrets on both sides of the river. Among these hidden gems is none other than the Woolverton Inn, a gorgeous 18th century bed and breakfast in Stockton, NJ.

A stone’s throw from the Delaware, the Woolverton Inn is situated deep in the serene farmlands of the Garden State. As a result, this historic hotel has a far more lived-in atmosphere than your usual overnight venues. Of course, one key aspect of that is the inn’s historic roots. Opened as a meager farm in 1792, the property was eventually converted into a bustling bed and breakfast in the 1980s.

In the decades since, Woolverton has only continued to grow and develop beyond its original conception. Among its most recent innovations is the debut of an on-site restaurant – the inventive (and wholly delicious) Northridge Restaurant. In addition to its new eatery, owners Mary and Mario Passalacqua maintain a hands-on approach to the hotel’s day-to-day operations. Much of this has involved refurbishing some of the property’s 14 rooms, outfitting them with modern amenities like whirlpool tubs and air-conditioning systems.

“There’s a lot of story here,” Mary told me, emphasizing her appreciation for the hotel. “There’s a historical story, there’s a great getaway story, there’s a wedding story, and there’s now the restaurant. We’re really happy to share all of that with the community.”

A Modern Hotel With Historical Significance

In spite of these updates, the Passalacquas never lose sight of what makes the Woolverton so special to begin with. Namely, that involves the inn’s basis in local history, something reflected in almost every room in the hotel. Blending Victorian charm with Colonial architecture, it’s an inn that whisks viewers away to the pastoral landscape of New Jersey.

Indeed, one of the key reasons to visit also has to do with the hotel’s unique location. Less than an hour from Philadelphia and just over an hour from New York, it’s a convenient halfway point between each city. For this reason, it’s the perfect weekend getaway, allowing guests a picturesque escape from the hubbub of the work week.

“Having a destination property, it’s more than just a 12-hour stay,” Mary said. “People come here for the weekend and they reconnect with people who came a long way to be with them.”

Unrivaled Access to Neighboring Points of Interest

Woolverton Inn also has the added benefit of being extremely close to the Delaware River and local areas of interest. Just over three miles downriver lies the upscale bohemian town of New Hope. Featuring riverside restaurants, antique stores, bakeries, and everything in between, there’s nary a dull moment in this well-loved Pennsylvania borough. Taking the bridge across the river to New Jersey, visitors will come across the similarly quaint town of Lambertville.

Eleven miles from Woolverton Inn, guests can also behold Washington’s Crossing: the historic location where the Continental Army made their midnight voyage across the Delaware. If none of these activities suit you, you can always take a leisurely bike ride along the river instead.

No matter how you choose to spend your time, there’s no question endless possibilities await in Woolverton Inn. Whether visiting in spring, summer, fall, or winter, this cozy B&B is the perfect setting for all kinds of wondrous activities. From wedding ceremonies to workplace retreats, Wolverton Inn caters to every potential guest, ensuring you and your loved ones leave with a smile on your face and enough memories to last a lifetime.
